GT vs MI HIGHLIGHTS, GT vs MI: Gujarat Titans became the third team after CSK and MI to make it to two consecutive IPL finals. GT defeated Mumbai Indians in Qualifier 2 by 62 runs. Shubman Gill’s knock of 129 runs in the first innings helped Gujarat set a target of 234 runs. In the second innings, the Gujarat bowling attack put up a remarkable performance. Mohit Sharma scalped five wickets in his 2.2-over spell and gave away just 10 runs. Gujarat Titans will face Chennai Super Kings in the final of IPL 2023 on Sunday (May 28).

Shubman Gill is the player of the match for his amazing century. He says that for him it is all about playing ball-to-ball and sticking together. Gujarat skipper Hardik Pandya says that a lot of hard work has gone into their win and it is only a reflection of that. He says that Shubman Gill’s brilliance this year is amazing and his knocking in this game is one of the best he has ever seen and goes on to say that he is a superstar ‘ in Gill and that he will do good things for the franchise and for India as well. He says his job is simple and that is to keep the boys’ minds positive. He says that when things are not going well, Rashid Khan comes in and does a good job. He mentions that regardless of the result, they just want to play good cricket and are excited and happy for the boys.
Mohit Sharma, who had a good bowling performance, is there for a chat. He says he is a bit lucky to get these wickets. He mentions that he was bowling well and the opposition seemed to be going at one level as Tilak Varma and Suryakumar Yadav battled as far as they were concerned. He tells that they didn’t want to test in front of Suryakumar Yadav and bowl long balls even if they go for six. He said that after Suryakumar Yadav came out they were more confident to win. She concludes by saying that they were convinced of a final scene only after the last wicket fell.

Rohit Sharma, the Mumbai captain says it was a big Gujarat total and said Shubman Gill batted really well. Think they conceded 20-25 runs more but with their batting line up, they were very optimistic. He says that Cameron Green and Suryakumar Yadav fought well in the middle but lost the escape. He says they had a chat about having a good crack and being positive but the Powerplay didn’t go well as they lost a few wickets. He says that the young players did well and that they can take it in the coming season to see what they can do with the team. He says that all the bowling teams were challenged and put in a good bowling performance last time but credit goes to Shubman Gill and he hopes he can continue that form. She ends by saying that Tim had a role during the season and where he bats but Vishnu had a chance because he is a good player so they don’t want to look to make any misjudgment because Gujarat is ahead.
Earlier in the match, Rohit Sharma won the toss and sent Gujarat batting on a wicket that was under cover for some time. Gujarat had a good start with the bat but lost Wriddhiman Saha right after the Powerplay. Then it was a sensational 138-run stand between Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan that put the hosts on top. Gill went on to score his third hundred in the last four innings and finished with 129 runs, the highest individual score this season. Sudharsan also batted well and Hardik Pandya finished the innings with some success. For Mumbai, their bowling was not much to talk about except for Jason Behrendorff who bowled a very economical spell and Kumar Kartikeya too well in the two innings he bowled. Coming to the chase, it was up and down for the first half but in the second half of the chase, Gujarat had the bowling abilities and were able to completely destroy Mumbai’s innings.
Mumbai’s brilliant run comes to an end as they crash miserably in Qualifier 2 and miss out on the final. Coming in to chase 234 runs, Mumbai had some injury problems and had to use Impact, Nehal Wadhera at the top of the order. Neither he nor Rohit Sharma got out and even Cameron Green took a hit around his left elbow which forced him to withdraw injured. Tilak Varma and Suryakumar Yadav put up a strong stand but just when Varma was at his best, he found out. Yadav kept going through one over and Green came back on the bat and supported Yadav for a bit. Once the ball was changed though, Mumbai began to self-destruct with the bat. They went from 155 to 5 to 162 to 9 in no time and in the end, ran out of steam completely with the likes of Tim David and Vishnu Vinod unable to fire.

Gujarat had a mammoth total on the board thanks to a masterclass from Shubman Gill at the top. And then, Mohammad Shami gave them a good start with the ball with some early wickets. They went high for a few runs from there but on the last ball of the Powerplay, Rashid Khan dismissed Tilak Varma who was under fire till then. They didn’t pick up many wickets in the middle order but once Joshua Little and Mohit Sharma came in to bowl, things changed. He didn’t create much pressure and got a wicket but it was Sharma who bowled a brilliant spell and finished with five wickets, including a well-placed wicket of Suryakumar Yadav. In the end, Gujarat had too many runs on the board and won the game comfortably.
