Thanks to Liam Livingstone’s solid performance, the Punjab Kings beat the Chennai Super Kings by 54 runs in an Indian Premier League game on Sunday. The England all-rounder hit 60 balls from 32, scoring 2:25 and securing the last catch as Chennai suffered their third consecutive defeat.

RCB’s Harshal Patel returned without a wicket against PBKS but managed to retain his top spot in the Purple Caps list with 26 wickets in 12 games. DC’s Avesh Khan (21), PBKS’ Mohammed Shami (18), MI’s Jasprit Bumrah (17) and PBKS’s Arshdeep Singh (16) are currently in the top five.

IPL 2022: The Kolkata Knight Riders got off to a successful start to their Indian Premier League season by beating defending champions CSK by six wickets.
It was an all-round start for Shreyas Iyer as captain of the Kolkata Knight Riders as the side recorded a comfortable six-wicket victory over defending champions Chennai Super Kings. After limiting CSK to 131/5 in 20 overs, the Knight Riders were chasing the target with nine balls remaining while new CSK captain Ravindra Jadeja endured a rough ride in his first appearance as skipper.

But even as CSK suffered a heavy defeat, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, the side’s former captain, stole the show with an impressive half-century unbeaten run as he rolled back the years in style. Dhoni came on as CSK teetered at 61/5 in 10.5 overs. The wicketkeeper then scored 50 of CSK’s next 70 runs, putting the team to a respectable point total.
With an unbeaten half-century of 38 deliveries, Dhoni not only wears the Orange Cap but also remains the only player in the game to have scored fifty goals. Ajinkya Rahane came closest to the former Chennai Super Kings captain with a crucial 44 of 34 deliveries as he opened the innings for KKR.
Although he ended up on the losing side, it was the Chennai Super Kings player who also topped the Purple Cap table. Lead wicket taker Dwayne Bravo leads the wicket takers as he suffers three layoffs while defending a low 132 run target.
Umesh Yadav, who made an excellent opening shot against CSK (where he missed openers Ruturai Gaikwad and Devon Conway), is second.
