The decision was announced to the current Australian Women’s World Cup squad, and members of previous World Cup-winning teams, at a special function in Brisbane on Saturday night.
The night celebrated the achievements of the winning teams in 1978, 1982, 1988, 1997, 2005 and 2013.

CA expects the Southern Stars moniker to be used together, but the changes will include an official name change and new logo.

“We are leaving the Southern Star, a wonderful brand that our colleagues created and will remain as an alternative name for the team,” Peever said.

Social media accounts using the Southern Stars name will remain due to their strong following, but the official name and logo will be changed to reflect the new convention.
