The 2023 edition of the ICC Men’s ODI World Cup is set to begin in less than four months. This year, for the first time in 48 years, the ODI World Cup will be held entirely in India. India, the current powerhouse of world cricket, has co-hosted the Men’s 50 World Cup on three previous occasions (1987, 1996 and 2011), but has never hosted the entire tournament single-handedly. A total of 10 teams will travel to India this year to participate in the multi-national event to be played at various venues.
According to reports, the 13th edition of the ODI World Cup will begin on October 5 with a clash between the finalists of the last two editions, England and New Zealand, and the final is scheduled to be held on November 19 at the Modi’s Narendra Stadium in Ahmedabad. Eight teams have already secured direct qualification, while eight teams are still battling it out in the World Cup qualifiers for the remaining two spots.

Against India’s strong batting line-up, Sri Lankan captain Dasun Shanka was forced to use as many as seven bowlers, six of whom bowled for an economy of over 6.00 and only three bowlers returned it with at least one wicket.

“Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has directed the national team manager to submit a report on Sri Lanka’s heavy defeat against India in the third ODI played in Thiruvananthapuram on 15 January 2023,” read a statement issued by the SLC on Monday. .
“The report should contain the views of the captain, head coach and selection panel and the team manager on the defeat,” the statement added.

“The SLC has requested the team manager to submit a ‘report’ within a period of 5 days. This report will enable Sri Lanka Cricket to review and understand the background of the poor performance of the team during the last ODI, which was lost by 317 runs. Sri Lanka’s form in white-ball cricket has seen a dip since winning the Asian Cup in the UAE last September. Sri Lanka were eliminated from the 2022 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup after qualifying in the main draw. After the World Cup, Sri Lanka managed to finish the three-match ODI series against Afghanistan with an even scoreline and one match ended in a draw. Sri Lanka also lost the T20I series against India. The team is ranked 8th in the ICC rankings for both T20Is and ODIs.
