Rohit Sharma Runs In Ipl 2023 – The MI and India captain faces a reality similar to that faced by many modern players across all formats, T20 is a tough format to regain form
Rohit Sharma recorded his fifth consecutive single-figure score to the disappointment of a packed home crowd on Tuesday. His last five IPL innings now read 2, 3, 0, 0, 7 and he has scored just 191 runs in IPL 2023 at an average of 17.36 and a not-too-impressive strike rate of 124.84.

Experts have tried to sort out the root cause of the Mumbai Indians legend’s problems with the bat. Virender Sehwag believes that the problem is psychological and not technical. Sunil Gavaskar feels he needs a break from cricket. But the stakes are high if you are India’s captain and the most successful captain in the history of the tournament. So, Sharma is struggling.

Virat Kohli found himself in a similar situation last year. He got three golden ducks and laughed at duck jokes on his franchise platform. Kane Williamson, who played for Sunrisers Hyderabad last season, could not finish with 216 runs in 13 matches at an average of 19.64 and a strike rate of 93.51.
The fast-paced nature of T20 cricket and the constant hustle and bustle of the IPL does not allow established batsmen of all formats to close the cracks. In a sense, one can only hope that everything will fall into place. Sometimes, as Dinesh Karthik showed in 2020 when he refused to captain KKR, they don’t.
“What happens in the T20 format is that you don’t have the luxury of time. You are chasing 200 and you need to go ball by ball or at least try to put pressure on the opposition,” said Sanjay Bangar, former India batting coach and head coach of Royal Challengers Bangalore. “You also saw what he tried to do against Hazlewood (against RCB on Tuesday), he missed the first ball. That’s usually something you don’t see from a hitter who isn’t among the wounds. But those are the demands of T20, where if you score runs, you aim to cash in. But if you’re not, it becomes a bit more difficult because you still have to make sure that your approach doesn’t harm the good of the team.”
As captain of an MI team that lacks bowling depth, Sharma knows the pitfalls of finding form in the middle. A run-a-ball fifty might help him re-orient himself, but if it doesn’t lead to a competitive total, that approach could hurt his team. The data shows that Sharma’s strike percentage (60%) this year was the highest in an entire IPL season.
Rohit Sharma Breaks Virat Kohli’s Record During His Match Winning Innings Against Delhi Capitals In Ipl 2023
His choice of a ramp shot against Chennai Super Kings in the previous match when the leg side boundary was open led to his downfall. But that didn’t stop Sharma from getting out early against RCB’s Wanindu Hasaranga.
“What I’ve seen from all the teams is that they take a lot of risk and it comes. This is how T20 cricket should be played. Times have changed and you have to keep playing the shots,” Sharma said in the post-match presentation.
In Sharma’s case, his poor form reflects the good and bad of focusing on the big picture. The bad thing is that it’s not just bad form. This is the fifth consecutive IPL season that Sharma has scored with a strike rate below 130. Although his T20I figure (139.24) is much higher than his IPL career strike rate (129.73), his newly adapted aggro haven’t paid yet
The bright side for the Indian cricket fan is that this is not a virus that has seeped into his performances in other formats. The ODI run machine has scored 10,250 in the eight matches he has played this year. In Test cricket, he recently scored a classic against Australia in Nagpur.

But with rigid and overlapping schedules between formats, the task only becomes more difficult for participants in all formats. Especially if you are still in your thirties like Sharmi.
“Rohit has played for such a long period of time and has captained India in all formats as well as his franchise. It requires an emotional load. It is morally burdensome. In a tournament like the IPL, the energy a captain puts into planning and strategizing can have some effect,” said Bangar.
“He knows it and has done it for such a long period of time that for the sake of Indian cricket and MI we hope he gets back to his scoring routine. It is very important for us (India) to shoot in the final of the Test World Cup.”

The last-ball win gives five-time champions Mumbai Indians their first win after two defeats. Delhi Capitals have lost their first four matches.
Mumbai weren’t at their best, but arguably against Delhi Capitals, they shouldn’t have been. Rohit Sharma’s 65 gave the five-time IPL champions their first win of the season. They restricted DC to 172 at the waist of the track before winning the final ball with Tim David batting for two. The result now leaves the Delhi team as the only side this season yet to win a game.

Mumbai won the toss and elected to bowl. Chasing has been the way to go this season and MI, who were on top in the first two games, decided to go with the early trend. It was an opportunity for DC to go out there and throw the kitchen sink at the MI bowlers.
There has been some pressure on Prithvi Shaw to strengthen a batting line-up that lacks the big firepower that almost every team needs to succeed in the IPL. But the discovery of DC failed again. He reached 15 (10 balls) before finding Cameron Green off Hrithik Shokin. He could have hit it anywhere but he picked the tallest fielder and as he left the field his frustration was clear for all to see.
But the running speed of DC remained at a decent level. Shaw’s cameo was followed by Manish Pandey’s 18-ball 26 and by the time the powerplay ended, the hosts were at a respectable 51/1. It wasn’t a crazy start, but it was enough to keep them in the game. A base from which they could exit.
However, this is where Piyush Chawla appeared. At 34, the leg-spinner has been around for a long time, but many still remember him for beating Sachin Tendulkar (from Google, no less) in a Challenger Series match in 2005.
Rohit Sharma Should Take A Break From Ipl 2023
In the match against DC, he showed that despite not being part of the Indian squad conversation, he still has enough skill to trouble the batsmen on his day. His spell of 4-0-22-3 broke the back of the DC innings at a crucial time. He first took the wicket of Pandey before sending Rovman Powell (4) and Lalit Yadav (2) back to the dugout.
This reduced DC to 98/5 after 12.3 overs. Things could have been worse if Chawla had saved the chance given to him by David Warner earlier. But the home team was in serious trouble and needed a good selection.
Axar Patel, who was recently in the news for his exploits in battle, stepped in and did just what the doctor ordered. His 54 off 24 balls gave his team a boost but also left many wondering if Warner could have done better. His 51 off 47 balls at a strike rate of just 108.51 didn’t exactly help his team. There was simply not enough time and energy.
In reply, with dew helping their cause, MI cruised to a blinder, reaching 68/0 at the end of their overs. Rohit Sharma’s 39 not out from 19 balls was the driving force early on and remained so for some time.

The MI captain was involved in a big fight with Ishan Kishan (31 off 26) but it didn’t have much of an impact on the game.
Given MI’s inexperienced line-up, it was vital for them that Rohit played the way he did on Tuesday. Not only did he go for the best moments, but he hung on until the end to help his team get into a good position
