New Delhi: Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Rajasthan Royals has deepened its relationship with Indian energy drink giant Red Bull and plans to continue scouting talent from Red Bull Campus Cricket — the annual international T20 tournament for college cricket teams.

The tenth anniversary of the global college cricket tournament, Red Bull Campus Cricket (RBCC) is being held in 32 cities across India with city qualifiers from February 17 to discover and nurture budding cricketers from college campuses.

The latest success story from Red Bull Campus Cricket is Tamil Nadu batsman Shahrukh Khan, who was bought by Punjab Kings in the recently concluded IPL auction for Rs. He took it for 5.25 crores.
Shahrukh Khan is a national finalist of the RBCC tournament who led Hindustan College from Chennai to the finals of Red Bull Campus Cricket 2019 edition.
He was also selected for the RBCC Player Trials with Rajasthan Royals at the Institute of Sports, Talegaon, Nagpur in the first week of December 2019. He was also part of the IPL 2020 auction, but he was identified because of his name.

“Personally I wanted to win the tournament for my team but unfortunately we lost it. The way I see it, it will be an opportunity for me, if I do well there, I will be selected. Rajasthan Royals invited me for a trial after seeing me playing in Red Bull Campus Cricket. It was a very good experience for me,’ Shah Rukh said in a statement.
The Red Bull Campus Cricket 2021 City Qualifiers were held from February 17 to March 15 across various cities. The winning college from each city advances to the district/regional finals in April. The top two teams from each zone in the RBCC will compete in the National Finals in the first week of June, where teams will play in the knockout rounds of quarter-finals, semi-finals and finals respectively.
The national winner will then represent India at the RBCC World Finals 2021. Previous winners representing India at the World Championship were Rizvi College, Mumbai. DAV College, Chandigarh; Swami Shradhananda College, Delhi; MMC College, Pune.
KL Rahul, Mayank Agarwal, Aiden Markram, Lungi Ngidi, Niroshan Dickwella and Chirag Suri are six players who have made a name for their countries in international cricket using the Red Bull Campus Cricket platform.

Red Bull athlete KL Rahul was the top scorer in the 2013 edition of the competition and credited RBCC for his success both domestically and internationally. Cricketers like Manan Vohra, Shardul Thakur, Karun Nair, Shashank Singh, Siddesh Lad, Himanshu Rana, Abhimanyu Easwaran, Anukul Roy, Ruthuraj Gaikwad and Ricky Bhui have also reaped the benefits of Red Bull Campus Cricket.
The women’s competition will be held in four zones — North, South, East and West — with the winners of the zonal editions playing in the national finals. The winning team in the national final will be selected as the best women’s college cricket team in India. A few players participating in the women’s league also get a chance to interact with Smriti Mandhana.
