In an entertaining match between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Lucknow Super Giants, LSG’s Nicolas Pooran led his team to a 4-wicket victory on April 10 during the TATA IPL 2023.

Batting first, RCB’s Virat Kohli and skipper Faf Du Plessis provided the team with a solid platform as the pair added 96 runs for the opening wicket. The pair completed the first 50 runs in just 5.3 overs. Soon Virat Kohli 61(44) completed his amazing half-century off just 35 balls but had to be bowled by Amit Mishra in the 12th over.

With skipper Glen Maxwell, the runs started rolling in on the scoreboard and RCB scored 100 runs in 12.3 overs. The pair added 115 runs in just 50 balls for the second wicket. Maxwell was cleaned out by Mark Wood for 59 (29) in the final over before Du Plessis returned unbeaten with 79 (46). At the end of 20 overs, RCB scored 212/4 runs.

Chasing a mammoth target of 213 runs in 20 overs, LSG’s openers collapsed and the team lost one wicket after another. However, Marcus Stoinis 65(30) and Nicholas Pooran 62(19) gave LSG a much-needed partnership and kept the current rate above 10 to check. After Stoinis departed, Ayush Badoni made 30(24) as the survivor for the team but Pooran was dismissed by Mohd Siraj on the last ball of the 17th over. Jaydev Unadkat 9 (7) was then sent in to finish the job. However, wickets started falling and at the end of the match LSG lost 9 wickets but managed to win by 1 wicket against RCB.

For RCB, Mohammed Siraj and Wayne Parnell took three wickets, Harshal Patel 2 wickets each and Karn Sharma one.

Pooran brought up his half-century off 15 balls, with a six off Wayne Parnell in the 16th over. He went past Ajinkya Rahane’s 19-ball fifty against Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium.

Pooran’s 15-ball fifty is also the second fastest in IPL history. Sunil Narine and Yusuf Pathan also scored half-centuries off fewer balls. KL Rahul and Pat Cummins hold the record for the fastest IPL fifty (14 balls).

The left-hander fell for a 19-ball 62 that featured four fours and seven sixes, putting Lucknow in the driver’s seat as they chased down a mammoth 213.

The West Indies cricketer was bought for Rs. 16 crore from the Lucknow franchise in the IPL 2023 auction. In IPL 2022, Pooran came into his own for Sunrisers Hyderabad, scoring 306 runs in 14 matches while batting at 144.34. Pooran made his IPL debut in 2019 for Kings XI Punjab (Punjab Kings) and played for the franchise for three seasons (2019-21).

The 27-year-old played 51 IPL matches and amassed 1,053 runs at an average of 27.71 while striking at 157.87. For the uninitiated, Pooran rose to fame in the Caribbean Premier League after scoring a 24-ball 54 for Trinidad and Tobago. Indeed, his amazing performances with the bat meant there was no hesitation when it came to Mumbai Indians upping the ante in the Indian Premier League (IPL) auction.
