Arthur will not officially be the ‘coach’ of the national team as a special advisor and team manager to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

“Given that I will have to continue to spend considerable time away from my family and also in a biosecure environment, I have decided to resign.
“I understand the timing won’t be ideal, but I don’t think I’m in the right frame of mind for the challenges ahead and it makes sense for someone to come back in and go.
“The last 24 months have been very enjoyable and I would like to thank my team and management for their support. I wish the Pakistan cricket team the best of luck in the upcoming events and will continue to support them whenever they take the field to represent Pakistan.”

Waqar Younis, who was appointed bowling coach in 2019 and had one year remaining on his contract, decided to resign from the PCB following Misbah’s decision.
“After Misbah shared his decision and his future plans, it was very easy for me to step down because we had done roles together, worked as a couple and now we are leaving together,” Younis said.
“Working with the Pakistani bowlers, including the youngsters, has been very rewarding as they are now starting to show progress. The bio-secure environments of the last 16 months have taken their toll, something we never experienced in our playing days.

Former bowler Waqar Younis has been appointed bowling coach for three years. Waqar was the coach of Pakistan twice before – from 2010 to 2011 and from 2014 to 2016. He has also been in charge of franchise clubs around the world, including Bangladesh Premier League’s Sylhet Sixers and Islamabad United of Pakistan Super League.
Although this is Misbah’s first stint as a coach in his career, he has leadership experience at all levels, including captaining Pakistan in 56 Tests. In all, he has scored over 10,300 runs in 75 Tests and 162 One Day Internationals.
