The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) presented its annual awards on Saturday evening and the event was hosted by two young cricketers – Prithvi Shah and Sarfaraz Khan. While the latter won five trophies, the former India U-19 captain won nine of them.

The title is apt in terms of cricket terms, but given the storm it created in cricket management circles, it might as well be called a bombshell. This is not unexpected as MCA is India’s richest state board and the epicenter of Indian cricket. The MCA is a permanent member of the Board of Control for Cricket in India and the BCCI is headquartered at the Cricket Center within the famous Wankhede Stadium in South Mumbai, where international Test matches have been held since 1975. The author of the book, Ravi Mandrekar (full title: ‘Bouncer – The Story of David and Goliath in MCA’), is a former office manager of MCA, who participated in the game and President of the Hindu Gymkhana Club. The club was one of the founding members of Bombay Cricket Association, the body now known as MCA.
