Cricket South Africa’s brand new T20 league seems to have found support from IPL owners. If this Cricbuzz report is true, then six of the nine IPL franchise owners will have their own teams in the upcoming tournament to be played between February and March 2023.

The report further states that the bid was concluded on Wednesday (July 13) which received 29 Expressions of Interest (EoIs) with Mukesh Ambani of Mumbai Indians, N Srinivasan of Chennai Super Kings, Parth Jindal of Delhi Capitals, Maranmi of SunRisers Hyderabad, Sanjiv. Goenka of Lucknow Super Giants and Manoj Badale of Rajasthan Royals left with six franchises available.
Cricket South Africa (CSA) claimed to announce details of the franchise owners by the end of this month, but the report confirmed that the above names have already received their offers and have been briefed by the cricket body.
Some other prominent names were also present at the auction, with a consortium led by South African-born former England cricketer Kevin Pietersen also bidding, but they failed to match the sheer cash power displayed by the team owners of the IPL.

“Bombay Indians will have their team in Cape Town. Chennai Super Kings, one of the most popular IPL franchises, is likely to get a franchise based in Johannesburg, while Jindal, co-owner of Delhi Capitals, will have his team based in Centurion, Pretoria. They will be called the Capitals of Pretoria,” reports said.
“Of the remaining two cities, SunRisers Hyderabad could have their team in Port Elizabeth while Royals should be based in Paarl,” he added.
MI and CSK reportedly submitted the highest financial bids of nearly INR 250 million. As the IPL model goes, each franchise will have to pay 10 percent franchise fee for 10 years.

Sanjiv Goenka, who won the IPL franchise in Lucknow last year, is believed to be interested in the Durban franchise.
