Kolkata Knight Riders’ thrilling win made Punjab Kings the fifth team to score 10 points in the IPL 2023 table.
Rinku Singh finished in grand fashion once again for Kolkata Knight Riders as they kept their IPL play-off hopes alive with a five-wicket win over Punjab Kings on Monday. Chasing KKR captain Nitish Rana’s half-century and Andre Russell’s target of 180 runs in the death overs, Rinku managed to end the match with 21 runs off 10 balls.
Earlier, Varun Chakraborty once again led his bowling department brilliantly with 3/26 as KKR put up a slow bowling display to restrict PBKS to 179 for 7 after the visitors opted to bat on late wickets. In reply, KKR’s batting show was led by a brilliant performance from Rana as he promoted himself to No.3 and laid the foundation with a 38-ball 51 (6×4, 1×6).
After Rana, who needed 56 off 28 balls, became Rahul Chahar’s second victim, Russell went ballistic to swing the equation in favor of KKR, who needed a six off the last over and hit Sam Curran for three sixes off 20 balls.

But death over specialist Arshdeep Singh hit sixes to defend and hit boundaries off the first four balls. When Russell was run out on the last ball, a calm Rinku Singh (21 not out; 10b) came through again with a last-ball boundary to give KKR victory.
KKR’s win increases the problem in the fight for at least four qualifying places. They are the fifth team to reach 10 points, with RR leading that lineup in terms of their net run rate. KKR is now fifth with a net run rate of -0.079. However, they could still go down depending on who wins Wednesday’s clash between Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore, who are level on points and both have 10 points. Third-placed Lucknow Supergiants are just one point ahead of the chasing pack on 11 points, while second-placed Chennai Super Kings are at 13th. Gujarat Titans are on top with 16 points.
There is no change in the top five in the Orange Cap table. In contrast, Rinku Singh has now reached the 10th position by scoring 337 runs at a strike rate of 151.12 in 11 matches. Faf du Plessis tops the table with 511 runs at a strike rate of 157.71 while Yashasvi Jaiswal is second with 477 runs at a strike rate of 160.60.

Varun Chakraborty’s 3/26 took him to fifth place in the Purple Cap table. He has taken 17 wickets in 11 matches. Mohammed Shami and Rashid Khan of Gujarat Titans and Tushar Deshpande of CSK are on top with 19 wickets. In terms of finance, Shami is first, followed by Rashid and Deshpande. Piyush Chawla is fourth with 17 wickets.
