President Ramnath Kovind on Wednesday inaugurated the Narendra Modi Stadium, the world’s largest cricket stadium, at Motera in Ahmedabad. Formerly known as the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Stadium, the renovated stadium has a capacity of 1,32,000, 10,000 more than the Melbourne Cricket Ground, which was previously the largest. The stadium has a larger capacity than the Bengaluru, Chennai and Mumbai stadiums and has parking for 3,000 cars and 10,000 two-wheelers. It boasts an innovative drainage system that helps pump water off the field and resume play within half an hour of heavy rain.

The complex will cost Rs 4,500 crore and the government has allotted land for the project.
