Archer’s presence at the tournament was less than a year after suffering an injury during the India-England series. The 26-year-old, who has been struggling with his right elbow for some time, also underwent surgery in January after sustaining a serious injury to his arm at home.

England’s medical team managed an injury during the tour, which did not affect his availability. A piece of glass was removed during surgery from his middle finger on his right hand in March.

Archer will now extend his training regime starting next week and will be fully trained by Sussex. The board also said that they hope that Archer will be able to increase his strength and his batting from next week. The ECB will confirm which games he is expected to play in due course.

Meanwhile, Archer was signed by the Mumbai Indians for £783,000, although he will not play for them this year due to injury.

The England international is currently recovering from an elbow problem, but entered the auction with hopes of playing in the 2023 and 2024 editions of the IPL.

Mark Wood and Jonny Bairstow also got big money deals, with new franchise Lucknow Super Giants paying £734,000 for Woods and Punjab Kings shelling out £660,000 for Bairstow.

Alex Hales has signed a £146,790 contract with Kolkata Knight Riders and will be joined by wicketkeeper Sam Billings, who was bought by the same club for £195,700.

Chris Jordan was signed by Chennai Super Kings for £352,300, while Timal Mills was signed by Mumbai Indians for £146,790.

Jason Roy and David Willey were both signed for £195,700, with Roy joining the new Gujarat Lions and Willey being snapped up by Royal Challengers Bangalore.

Archer, who has struggled with injuries for the past few years, has played just five matches this season with two wickets. His last appearance was against Chennai Super Kings last week.

The IPL publication does not specify the nature of Archer’s injury but it is believed to be his right elbow which has been giving him trouble since 2021. Archer missed the entire IPL last year. He started in MI’s first game of the season but missed four games on the trot.

Reports also revealed that the lanky pacer was in Belgium in the middle of the tournament to undergo a minor surgery. He returned to the squad but was left out again due to an illness reported by captain Rohit Sharma.

Jordan, who made his IPL debut in 2016, has so far played 28 IPL matches and has 27 wickets against his name. The fast bowler represented England in 87 T20Is and took 96 T20I wickets. Jordan contributed ₹ 2 crore to the effort.
