Chasing the regular target of 149, defending champions MI won the contest by eight wickets effortlessly. Kolkata batted first and started on an average note, struggling even to reach the 120-30 mark. It was heroics from Pat Cummins (53* off 36) and new skipper Eoin Morgan (39* off 29) that pushed KKR to a total of 148 runs.

Quinton de Kock was awarded the man of the match honor for his phenomenal innings of 78* off 44. Apart from Cummins and Morgan, Shubman Gill added 21 runs from his bat to the total team. Rahul Chahar had an excellent show with the ball as he conceded just 18 runs in his spell to pick up two crucial wickets. Jasprit Bumrah and Krunal Pandya also remained frugal for Mumbai.

Chasing the usual total, MI openers Quinton de Kock and Rohit Sharma (35 off 36) started their chase superbly. After Monday’s tough knock-off match between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Punjab Kings (PBKS), which proved to be a tough match where both teams played well, there were quite a few changes in the points table, orange cap and purple cap.

In Monday’s match at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) secured a thrilling last-gasp five-wicket victory over Punjab Kings (PBKS), thanks to the skills of Rinku Singh.

Rinku’s impressive knock of 21 runs from 10 balls in the last overs helped KKR chase down the below-average total of 180, along with the contributions of skipper Nitish Rana’s half-century and Andre Russell’s powerful 42 off 23 deliveries. Only Nathan Ellis and Rahul Chahar could slow KKR’s run rate, with Chahar taking two wickets, including Nitish Rana’s, when he was on 51 runs.
