This is exactly what we saw when Shikhar Dhawan single-handedly led the Punjab Kings batting line-up. Out of Punjab Kings’ 143 runs against SRH, Dhawan himself scored 99 runs. This knock should probably be in the top 5 for the highest percentage of team runs scored by any player in the IPL.

At number 5 is KL Rahul who was like a lone warrior batting against Rajasthan Royals in 2018. Chasing KL 159, he fought the battle to the end while the other players fell like a pack of cards. Such was the misery that KL Rahul scored 95, accounting for 66.5% of the team’s runs, while second-highest scorer Stoinis scored 11. Unfortunately Punjab lost this match but it was an inspiring effort from KL Rahul.
At number 4 is the only foreign player on the list, Quinton de Kock. It was another performance where KL Rahul was involved as the duo scored 210 in 20 overs without losing a wicket. De Kock scored a fantastic 140 off 70 balls unlike KL Rahul who could only manage 68 off 51 balls. Fortunately, KL Rahul’s slow knock didn’t affect him as the giants won the match by 2 runs, surviving Rinku Singh’s storm.

Number 3 sees the knock that brought Rishabh Pant into the limelight. It was 2018 when Rishabh Pant was at his best while batting. He single-handedly spoiled SRH’s bowling line-up, scoring 68.45% of the team’s runs. While Pant scored 128 points, the second highest in Delhi was Harshal who scored 24 points.
The latest of the lot, and undoubtedly a knock of extraordinary importance. What sets this knock apart from the rest is that it comes from a player nearing the end of his career. The Punjab captain batted from first to 20 and scored an unbeaten 99 off 66 balls to lift Punjab to 143 all out. It’s a pity that he didn’t get a hundred, but thanks to his knock, he got the player of the match even in a losing cause.
Same Punjab team, different captain, but it looks like KL Rahul will be one step ahead of Dhawan as the Army’s one-man batting from 2021 onwards. Punjab needed a captain to retain the championship and KL Rahul did just that, smashing 98 off 42 balls while chasing 139 against CSK. KL Rahul was in top form making a mockery of the runs which saw Punjab bowled out for 139 in just 13 overs.
