Rinku Singh’s skill helped Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to a thrilling five-wicket victory over Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the last ball at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Monday.
Captain Nitish Rana’s half-century and Andre Russell’s mighty contribution of 42 off 23 balls helped KKR chase Rinku’s average of 180 with 21 off 10 balls in the final overs. Only Nathan Ellis and Rahul Chahar were able to slow the KKR run-rate, with Chahar taking two wickets including Nitish Rana on 51 runs.
Earlier, PBKS opted to bat first and scored 179 for seven on a slow surface, with Shikhar Dhawan scoring another half-century with an innings of 57 runs off 47 balls. KKR’s mystery spinner Varun Chakraborty took three wickets for just 26 runs in his quota of four overs. With this win, KKR moved up to the fifth position in the points table.

After the last ball win against PBKS, KKR moved up to fifth position in the points table with 10 points. This result has made the battle for the play-offs all the more exciting as the five teams in the middle of the table currently share the same number of points (10).
At the top of the points table, Gujarat Titans (GT) are at the top of the pack with 16 points, while Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are three points behind GT at the second position. The third team, Lucknow Super Giants, is one point (11) ahead of the other teams in the table.
KKR’s Rinku Singh has climbed to the 10th spot in the highest runs list with 337 runs, while PBKS skipper Shikhar Dhawan is ninth with 349 runs. There are no other changes in the list.
The Orange Cap, awarded to the tournament’s leading run scorer, is currently held by Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) captain Faf du Plessis, who has scored 511 runs in 10 matches. Young Rajasthan Royals opener Yassavi Jaiswal is second with 477 runs at a strike rate of 160.60.

After his impressive spell of 3/26 against PBKS on Monday, KKR’s Varun Chakraborty has moved up to the fifth position in this season’s highest wicket-taker list with 17 wickets in 11 matches. Meanwhile, Gujarat Titans (GT) pacer Mohammad Shami currently holds the Purple Cap, having taken 17 wickets this season.
Leg-spinner Rashid Khan and CSK pacer Tushar Deshpande have 17 wickets each, but their economy rates are higher than Shami’s.

Chennai Super Kings defeated DC in the afternoon match while Lucknow defeated KKR in the evening match to qualify for the IPL 2023 playoffs.
In a thriller, Lucknow Supergiants triumphed by just one run against Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens, Kolkata. Rinku Singh was once again the center of attraction with his scintillating batting in the final overs. Rinku needed 21 runs to chase in the last over but managed to score 16 runs in the last over with the bat. Batting first, Lucknow posted 176 runs on the board with contributions from Nicholas Pooran (58) and Quinton de Kock (28). Jason Roy (45) and Venkatesh Iyer (24) put on a 61-run partnership for Kolkata to get their chase off to a flying start. KKR panicked in the middle overs, after Rinku Singh scored 67 off 33 balls, hitting 6 fours and 4 sixes. Ravi Bishnoi for LSG played well with the ball. He took 2 wickets conceding just 23 runs in his 4 overs.
Chennai Super Kings team won by 77 runs against Delhi Capitals. Batting first, Chennai Super Kings beat Delhi Bowlers at the Arun Jaitley Cricket Stadium. With an excellent opening partnership from Ruturaj Gaikwad (79) and Devon Conway (87), Chennai gained momentum to post a huge total. Later, Shivam Dubey (22) and Ravindra Jadeja (20) ended the innings with a bang. Chasing 224 runs, Delhi’s batting failed again. Apart from captain David Warner (86), no other batsman was able to score a big total. CSK’s Deepak Chahar (3/22) played well with the ball and helped restrict Delhi to just 146.
With the convincing win against Delhi Capitals, Chennai secured the 2nd position in the points table and became the 2nd team to qualify for the IPL 2023 playoffs. Lucknow Supergiants are the 3rd team to qualify for the IPL playoffs along with Gujarat. Titans and Chennai Super Kings. Lucknow ended their league run with 17 points with a win over Kolkata. Kolkata finished the campaign with 12 points and placed 8th. Chennai Super Kings will now take on Gujarat Titans in Qualifier 1 at Chepauk. Chennai have 17 points from 14 matches. Delhi Capitals finished the campaign with just 5 wins this season. 9th in the points table with just 10 points.

Royal Challengers Bangalore captain Faf du Plessis remains the orange cap holder after scoring 702 runs in 13 matches. Chennai’s Devon Conway scored a brilliant 87 runs against Delhi Capitals. Conway’s innings saw him jump to 3rd in runs with 585 runs in 13 innings. Conway has been a consistent run scorer for CSK this season. Rajasthan Royals success Jaiswal is 2nd in the list with 625 runs in 14 innings. Jaiswal had a great IPL season and played some cracking knocks as well. Shubman Gill of Gujarat Titans is 4th in the list with 576 runs. RCB’s Virat Kohli is at the 5th position with 538 runs.
Gujarat Titans pacer Mohammad Shami leads the Purple Cap race with 23 wickets. Rashid and Shami will battle for the purple cap against Royal Challengers Bangalore on Sunday. Rashid Khan is chasing Shami and is second in runs with 23 wickets. Rajasthan Royals’ Yuzvendra Chahal is 3rd in the list with 21 wickets. Chahal was the winner of the Purple Cap in IPL 2022. Mumbai’s Piyush Chawla is 4th in runs with 20 wickets in 13 matches. They have a chance to take the lead against Sunrisers Hyderabad. Kolkata’s Varun Chakraborty is fifth with 20 wickets.
IPL 2023 will get its 4th team in the playoffs on Sunday. Gujarat Titans and Chennai Super Kings have already qualified for the playoffs and will face each other in Qualifier 1. Lucknow Supergiants are 3rd in the points table and await their opponent in Eliminator 1. On Sunday afternoon, Sunrisers Hyderabad will face Mumbai Indians. Wankhede at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium followed by Gujarat Titans against Royal Challengers Bangalore. Both Mumbai Indians and Bengaluru need a win to enter the 4th spot in the playoffs.
