First leg winners Gujarat Titans took on the charismatic Chennai Super Kings in the first match of the season at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
The stakes were high for both teams. While CSK and MS Dhoni had a meeting with destiny, Gujarat Titans had their share of history to chase.
With a win on Monday, CSK could equal Mumbai Indians’ record five IPL titles, while GT had a unique chance to win two titles in two years of existence. It would also be their captain Hardik Pandya’s record sixth IPL title.

Mohit Sharma went through in the final and was instructed to defend 13 points. He bowled four brilliant yorkers and gave away just three runs. The equation was 10 runs from 2 balls and in came Jadeja, who hit a six off the penultimate ball and a four off the last ball to end a dramatic cricket match. Well played for both teams though. 00:42- CSK 74-1 (6.3) CSK lose their first wicket: Ruturaj Gaikwad misses his shot off the bowling of Noor Ahmad and it’s one of the easiest catches Rashid Khan can take. Shivam Dube comes in to replace Matheesh Pathiran as Impact Player.
00:26- CSK 52-0 (4), End of Powerplay: CSK go into a sprint thanks to great services from Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway, although they are helped by the fact that the ball is very slippery due to the wet pitch. The Super Kings could not have hoped for a better start and now need 119 runs in 11 overs.

21:13- GT 214-4 (20), end of innings: GT have posted a mammoth total on the board, adding 71 runs in the last five overs. A cameo from Hardik Pandya and a powerful knock from Sai Sudharsan – who was unfortunate to fall just four runs short of his maiden IPL century – made batting look child’s play against the likes of Matheesha Pathiran. 20:43- GT 143-2 (15): Although GT lost Saha at the end of the 14th over, Sudharsan kept up his run rate by beating Theekshana for six consecutive runs to score 48 runs. GT will be hoping to add at least 60 more runs from here on, given that they have eight more wickets in hand with David Miller, Rahul Tevatia and Rashid Khan still to come.
