After Monday’s tight game between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Punjab Kings (PBKS) which saw a tough battle with both teams playing well, the points table saw a lot of changes, orange caps and purple caps.
In Monday’s game at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) defeated Punjab Kings (PBKS) by 5 wickets to pull off a thrilling last-ball win, thanks to Rinku Singh’s technical skill.
Ranko’s brilliant 21-10 in the final helped KKR to a below-average total of 180, aided by a half-century from skipper Nitish Rana and an impressive 42-23 with Andrew Russell. Only Nathan Ellis and Rahul Chahar managed to slow down KKR’s pace, with Chahar taking two wickets along with Nitish Rana when he was 51 runs away.
Earlier, PBKS opted to strike first and scored 179 for 7 at a slow pace, with Shikhar Dhawan still playing his fifty of 57 off 47 balls. KKR mystery spinner Varun Chakraborty took three wickets and conceded just 26 runs in his quota of four overs. With the win, KKR moved to the fifth position in the points table.

After his last ball against PBKS, KKR moved to the fifth position in the points table with 10 points. This result made the playoff competition more interesting because the five teams in the middle of the table currently share the same number of points (10).
On the points table, Gujarat Titans (GT) lead the pack with 16 points, while Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are second, three points behind GT. The third placed team Lucknow Supergiants are one point (11) ahead of the other teams in the draw.
KKR’s Rinku Singh is the 10th highest run scorer with 337 runs, while PBKS skipper Shekhar Dhawan is ninth with 349 runs. There were no other changes in the list.
The Orange Cap, awarded to the tournament’s top scorer, is currently held by Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) captain Faf du Plessis, who has scored 511 runs in 10 matches. The second spot is Rajasthan Royals’ young flyhalf Yashvi Jaiswal with 477 carries at a strike rate of 160.60.

After his impressive spell of 3/26 against PBKS on Monday, KKR’s Varun Chakraborty took 17 wickets in 11 matches to move up to the fifth spot in the list of highest wicket takers this season. Meanwhile, Gujarat Titans (GT) point guard Mohammad Shami currently holds the Purple Cap, having taken 17 wickets this season.
Leg-spinner Rashid Khan and CSG pacemaker Tushar Deshpande also have 17 wickets but their save rate is higher than Shami’s.
