Harmanpreet Becomes First Indian To Win ICC Women’s Player Of The Month Award
NEW DELHI, June 8 () — Indian women’s team captain Mithali Raj on Wednesday retired from international football after a 23-year career in which she established herself as the country’s greatest women’s all-rounder.
The 39-year-old said in a statement on social media: “Like every journey, this one must come to an end.”
Raj made her India debut as a 16-year-old in a one-day international against Ireland in 1996 and scored 68 against South Africa in a Women’s World Cup match in Christchurch in March , which proved to be her last international outing.
Her tally of 7,805 runs, including seven hundreds, over 232 matches made her the highest scorer in women’s ODIs.

He also played 12 friendlies and scored 699 runs including a career best of 214 against England at Taunton in 2002.

“I feel now is the right time to end my playing career as this team is in the hands of some very talented young players and the future of Indian cricket is bright.”
Raj became the face of women’s cricket in India and her performance inspired a biographical film to be released later.
