India Cricket Icc – Cricket came to India in the late 1700s courtesy of the British colonialists. The Calcutta Cricket Club was the first club established exclusively for Europeans in 1792. Indians soon started playing, but the game became popular in Bombay. The Parsees defeated the Europeans in 1877 and then toured England, winning only one game. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) was formed in 1928 and India finally made its Test debut in 1932, then in 1934 a national competition named Ranji Trophy was launched after KS Ranjitsinhji.
With Test series wins at home against Pakistan, New Zealand and England, India won their first Test series outside the subcontinent against New Zealand in 1967–68. After India beat the West Indies and England at home in 1971, it became known as a success that many did not expect.

As the one-day format began to gain popularity, India stunned the twice-dominant West Indies to lift the 1983 World Cup. The World Cup high was followed by another brilliant performance in Australia when India won the Cricket World Cup in 1985.

Cultivating world-class talent in both the batting and bowling departments, India continued to rise. In 2002, they were declared joint winners after the final was rained out in Sri Lanka. The 2007 ICC World T20 in South Africa will be fondly remembered by fans as India, who had little knowledge of the format, defeated Pakistan in the final under MS Dhoni to become champions in the first edition of the tournament.
India’s consistency in the format was demonstrated two years later in November 2009, when India became the No. 1 Test side in the world. They continued their dominance at the top until August 2011. Earlier that year, India beat Sri Lanka in the World Cup final to become the first team to win the most important trophy as hosts. MS Dhoni became the second captain after Kapil Dev to lead India to victory in the World Cup, sparking widespread celebrations across the country.
Dhoni was once again at the helm as India beat hosts England by five runs to lift the ICC Champions Trophy. India showed their adaptability when they won the Asia Cup in 2016. It was the first time the tournament was played in the T20I format and the Men in Blue remained unbeaten throughout the competition.
In Test cricket, India had a huge advantage over others and ended 2016 as the No. 1 Test team in the world. In 2016, they played 12 test matches and won nine, the most wins in a calendar year. India will play two five-Test series against Australia and England during the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) Men’s Future Tours Program (FTP) for the 2023-27 season, which was confirmed today.

The FTP announcement, which is the result of the collective efforts of the Full Members with the support of the ICC, ensures the accuracy of cricket matches with the approval of all bilateral series in the three formats. Exact dates for the series will be announced to Members in due course.
India begin their engagements for the next cycle by touring the West Indies next July while playing two Tests, three ODIs and three T20Is. After hosting Australia for the limited-overs series, India will begin their next full tour in December 2023 in South Africa.
India, runners-up to New Zealand in the inaugural ICC World Test Championship 2019-21, play the first of four five-Test series against England at home from January 2024. They face Australia in an away series from November of that year to January 2025, England in a series from June 2025 and Australia again against F7bru.

Afghanistan, who made their Test debut in Bengaluru in June 2018, will host India again in the coming FTP period as they play one Test and three ODIs in mid-2026.

India is also committed to playing other limited-overs series over the next four years, with the exception of matches against Australia, England, New Zealand, Sri Lanka and the West Indies that are part of the two WTC cycles that fall in this cycle.
WTC series: India’s WTC fixtures for the 2023-25 series consist of home series against Bangladesh, England and New Zealand and away series against Australia, South Africa and West Indies. In the 2025-27 WTC, they are scheduled to play Australia, South Africa and the West Indies at home and England, New Zealand and Sri Lanka in the away series.
Wasim Khan, ICC GM of Cricket, said: “I would like to thank our Members for their efforts to build this FTP over the next four years. We are incredibly fortunate to have an outstanding program of ICC global events and three live formats of the game with strong bilateral and domestic cricket, and this FTP is designed to allow all of cricket to flourish.
“The landscape around the game is constantly changing and we will work closely with Members as we collectively adapt. We are committed to developing the game and giving more fans more opportunities to enjoy cricket, but we are very mindful of the importance of balancing this ambition with player welfare.

“It’s a good challenge and we know what happened to us in the final of the last Championship, so I hope we don’t repeat things like that,” Rohit said.
India’s last ICC title win came a decade ago in the 2013 Champions Trophy, but Rohit said there was no point dwelling on past failures.
“Everybody wants to take the team forward. Everybody wants to win the title. Every captain wants to win the championship and I am no different. The next five days will be important for us. I want to focus on what we have in mind,” Rohit said.
“As a team we know what we have won and the last time we won. There is no point in thinking about it and putting pressure on it, we just want to focus on the game.”
