Hyderabad Cricket Stadium – The Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium was established by the Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) with the support of the state government in 2003 and the first match was played in 2005. The Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium is located in the eastern part of Uppal in the state of Hyderabad.
Known as the Hyderabad Cricket Stadium, the venue serves as the home of the Hyderabad state teams, the Indian cricket team and since 2008, when the Indian Premier League (IPL) began, the home of Hyderabad-based franchises – the Deccan Chargers and now the Sunrisers Hyderabad.

And for the first time since 2019, SRH will return to their home ground as the BCCI announced that the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad will be one of the venues for the IPL 2023 along with eleven other stadiums in 11 cities across the country.

Most of the funds for the project came after an open auction of the stadium title. Visaka Industries Limited won the auction with a bid price of Rs. 65,00,00,000. An amount of Rs. 43,00,00,000 was paid in advance and the stadium was named Visakha International Cricket Stadium in 2004.
In 2005, when most of the stadium was built, it was ready to host its first ODI match between India and South Africa. However, Y S Rajasekhara Reddy, the former Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, decided to change the name of the stadium to Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in memory of the former Prime Minister of India, Rajiv Gandhi.
As a result of this decision, HCA had to pay Visakha Industries six times the contract price under the clauses in the contract regarding the subsequent naming of the stadium or Visakha’s name unrelated to the stadium. However, the HCA escaped after some negotiations with the government by paying a sum of Rs. 43,00,00,000 i.e. contract price only.
