Captain Rishi Dhawan and Akash Vasisht’s fine all-round performance helped Himachal Pradesh reach the final of the Vijay Hazare Trophy as they thrashed Services by 77 in the first semi-final at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium here.
The duo put on a crucial 83-run partnership for the sixth wicket, making it an unbeaten 84 and 45 respectively, to push Himachal’s total to a competitive 281/6. They also picked six wickets between them to divert Services’ runs.
A 74-run stand for the second wicket between Prashant Chopra (78 off 109) and Digvijay Rangi helped Himachal recover from an early deficit. However, a minor breakdown during the middle overs left them reeling at 106 for 4 after being put in first.
From then on, captain Dhawan took control from Chopra to build an 88-run stand, scoring a brilliant 84 off 77 deliveries. After Chopra’s departure, Vasisht joined the captain’s side and scored 45 from his 29 overs to help his side finish well.

In response, Services’ chase suffered from a lack of momentum when Dhawan dismissed Lakhan Singh and Mohit Ahlawat in the space of six overs. Skipper Rajat Paliwal (55) and unbeaten opener Ravi Chauhan strengthened the innings, but ate too many deliveries, allowing the asking rate to rise.
Vasisht later dismissed Chauhan for 45 at 24.4, to end the partnership on 49. He quickly took his second wicket. From 154 for 5 at the start of the 37th over, when skipper Paliwal departed for 55, Services lost wickets in the next 10 overs to be bundled out for just 204.
In the other semi-final, Baba Aparajith hit 122 over Sheldon Jackson’s 134 and Chetan Sakariya’s impressive fifer as Tamil Nadu entered the final with a narrow two-wicket win over Saurashtra.

Jackson’s 125-ball 134 powered Saurashtra to 310/8 from their 50 overs. He stitched three useful partnerships – adding 92 for the second wicket with Vishvaraj Jadeja (52), 81 for the third wicket with Prerak Mankad (37), and 70 for the fourth wicket with Arpit Vasavada (57).
