England Cricket Team Players T20 – England have named their 15-man squad for the 2022 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in Australia, with one big exception that came as a surprise to everyone.
The tournament in Australia will be the first big challenge for new captain Jos Buttler, with high expectations for one of the pre-tournament favourites. Buttler has already stamped his mark, looking to make his mark in a long-standing side led by former captain Eoin Morgan.

One of the big selection calls – to leave out fellow opener Jason Roy – has already surprised everyone. But there are several other takeaways from the squad named for most of Australia, as England look to win their second T20 World Cup.
England T20 Squad: England Cricket Team For T20 World Cup 2022 Announced; Jason Roy Dropped
It has been a terrible summer for international cricketer Jason Roy, with the explosive batsman struggling for runs in both white-ball formats. In 2022, Roy amassed 206 runs in just 11 T20Is, at an average of 18.72 and a strike rate of 104.4.
He also has only one half-century to his name, far from his prime, when he was feared as one of the worst openers in world cricket.
England dropped Roy mercilessly, with multiple options at the top of the order. Captain Jos Buttler will take one of the opening slots along with Phil Salt.
However it is a decision that will raise a few lights, as one of the most important figures in white ball cricket in England over the last few years, has been stood down before a major tournament.

Elaborating on the decision, England men’s team managing director Rob Key said, “We thought it was the best, what a great opening partnership for the World Cup, and we realized it was as unfortunate a time as anything.”
England have also had a tough time all summer in the pace department, with a rotating section of the ball taking the mat more and more often. The three mainstays in the pace department – Jofra Archer, Mark Wood and Chris Woakes – have been out for long periods, with various injury issues.
But England will now be strengthened by two returning players in the form of Mark Wood and Chris Woakes. While Woakes will provide some much needed control and swing forward, Wood will bring great pace, something they have sorely missed in recent times.

The duo will be supported in the pace department by Sam Curran, Reece Topley, David Willey, Chris Jordan and Ben Stokes.

While it is almost guaranteed to be suitable picks and shots, Woakes and Wood’s recent cricket as well as match fitness will be a major concern for Buttler and co. The duo last played T20I during the semi-final loss to New Zealand in the 2021 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.
Reorganizing their preparations for the tournament is crucial for England, as they look to add some complexity and variety to their attack.
Despite Morgan’s retirement, England’s policy of fielding players in all three phases of the game continued under Buttler.
Ben Stokes, Moeen Ali, Sam Curran, Chris Jordan, Chris Woakes, David Willey and Liam Livingstone are all players who can make a mark with both bat and ball.

While Stokes, Curran and Ali are true all-rounders, the rest are also more than capable of contributing to one side of the game, while specializing in the other.
England will be hoping to fill their side with all the players that will give them depth with the bat, as well as the ball.
The England team has been assembled and big decisions have been made, England will aim to improve on the previous performance of the competition in 2021, where they missed the semi-finals.
