Almost a year after his untimely death, Kevin Pietersen continues to play an important role in English cricket. He becomes the light relief, the villain of the pantomime, the man who is sure to come out and distract from the more difficult things.
Pietersen’s final rallying cry for us to crack is to tattoo his body with a world map marked with red stars marking the locations where he has scored 35 years at international level. This proves that he is the wrong end of the stick when it comes to tattoos.

Our Kevin (well, not quite our Kevin, as he was fired from England, but he wants to be one of us who seems bad enough not to include the memory of all the good times) gives it, which is a modern twist. as he does with most of his hits. While it used to be common to have “I love mom” written somewhere on the shoulder, Pietersen has actually written “I love me” on his back and chest.
There is some confusion about the accuracy of the card, and not least because Pietersen scored nine of his hundred in London, which included accumulating a red star. This seems like the wrong way to go about it, but Petersen explained that it was “just a reflection”, allowing for the possibility that he intended to stand in front of the mirror, looking at the map in the right direction.
In his stunning memoir KP, in which he talks about the many great people who helped make England the best team in the world with him, he indulges in endless self-justification. But he admits one of his mistakes was an early visit to the tattoo parlor when he got three English lions tattooed on his left arm.
“I regret the things I did then, especially the three lions tattoo I got in the first one-day series I played in South Africa,” he recalls. “When I think about it now, I’m blushing.”
Please See My Tattoo God’: Tendulkar’s Reply To Fan’s Heartwarming Gesture Ahead Of His 50th Birthday
One day he should blush about his latest expedition into the world of body art. Plenty of other cricketers have tattoos, but it’s hard to imagine anyone deliberately drawing attention to personal success by making it appear that their skin is thinner than it appears. Or perhaps Sachin Tendulkar, in the light of Kevin’s example, has even now contacted a tattoo artist in Mumbai with a design based on his 100 hundreds for India in international tournaments, which should have taken 54 places.
Petersen may have kept the affair a secret between himself and his mirror, but before the ink was dry, he posted the photos on his Instagram account. By his own lofty standards, he may be pushed to the fore, but he will no doubt find a way to continue to play an important role, as if to get under the skin of the English cricket establishment.
His former team made it so easy for him and his teammates that he almost didn’t need the card now. England were bowled out for 234 in Sydney on Friday, a truly remarkable recovery from 33 for 4. Eoin Morgan, the new captain, scored a well-timed hundred to make some sort of recovery, but not enough to remove the . a question he did not answer in the days leading up to this triangular series before the World Cup.
Would England be a better side with Pietersen? Instead of debating the point, Morgan became blunt and said she thought it was a terrible question. It’s not terrible, of course. It’s subtle, but relevant.

England’s total on Friday made the answer glaringly obvious if runs alone were the key. Perhaps Morgan used this inaugural opportunity to make it clear that players come and go, that more than anything else, he took the job knowing what he had to do, and that Kevin is, in fact, still on the decline.
Only the withdrawal of the World Cup and Ashes later this year will force Pietersen to leave. The only way
