Kolkata Knight Riders’ thrilling win over Punjab Kings made them the fifth team in the IPL 2023 table with 10 points.
Rinku Singh once again did well for Kolkata Knight Riders as they beat Punjab Kings by five wickets on Monday to keep their IPL playoff hopes alive. KKR captain Nitish Rana’s half-century and Andre Russell’s massive drive in pursuit of 180 helped Rinku end the game on 21 not out in 10 balls.
Earlier, Varun Chakraborty led the bowling department with a brilliant 3/26 as KKR produced a scruffy bowling display to restrict PBKS to a sub-par 179 for seven after the visitors opted to bat on a slow wicket. In reply, KKR’s batting performance was led by Rana’s scintillating effort as he laid the foundation with 51 off 38 balls (6×4, 1×6).

Needing 56 off 28 balls after Rana became Rahul Chahar’s second victim, Russell went ballistic against Sam Curran, hitting three sixes off four balls in 20 overs to swing the equation in favor of KKR, who needed six in the last over.
But death over specialist Arshdeep Singh, who hit a six to defend, took it to the wire with a four off the first four balls. There was more drama when Russell was run out on the last ball and a calm Rinku Singh (21 not out; 10b) came to KKR’s rescue again, hitting a last-ball boundary to seal victory.
KKR’s victory leveled the fight for at least four of the qualifying spots. They are the fifth team to score 10 runs and RR lead the line-up in net run rate. KKR are currently ranked fifth with a net run rate of -0.079. However, they could progress depending on who wins Wednesday’s clash between Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore. Third-placed Lucknow Supergiants are just one point ahead of the chasing pack with 11 points, while second-placed Chennai Super Kings are at 13th. Gujarat Titans are leading the table with 16 points.
There were no changes in the top five positions in the Orange Cap table. However, Rinku Singh has now climbed to the tenth position with 337 runs from 11 matches at a strike rate of 151.12. Faf du Plessis remains the top scorer with 511 runs at a strike rate of 157.71 while Yashaswi Jaiswal is second with 477 runs at a strike rate of 160.60.

After a string of impressive wins in the first two matches, Team India’s winning streak came to an end as South Africa beat India by 5 wickets at the Perth Stadium on October 30 (Sunday). Chasing 133, South Africa suffered an early setback but Aiden Markram and David Miller played crucial innings and the Proteas hit the target with 2 balls to spare.

India opted to bat first but suffered a massive collapse in the middle order and the team was soon reduced to 49/5 in 8.3 overs. However, middle-order Suryakumar Yadav delivered another clinical performance as he put India out of trouble with a 40-ball 68. The 30-year-old hit three maxims and six boundaries to keep the Indian side in the game, leading India to a competitive total on the board. Lungi Ngidi took four wickets for the Proteas while Wayne Parnell took three wickets.
The Indian bowlers got off to a fairytale start as the Mohammed Shami-Arshdeep Singh partnership reduced South Africa to 24/3 in 5.4 overs. Meanwhile, Markram and Miller stood in front of the Indian pace attack as they forged a meaningful partnership to survive another rejection from the Indian pacers.
With the win, South Africa replaced Team India at the top of the Group B points table, relegating the Men in Blue to second place. The Temba Bavuma-led team now has five points with a net run rate of +2.27, while India has four points with a net run rate of +0.844.
