IPL Cricket 2022 – Home / Cricket / IPL Team of the Season 2022: 2 outs, 3 spinners and a team of six batsmen

The theme of this IPL was the experience of young blood crossing the line. Some stars, whose stocks have fallen and are on the verge of extinction, have given a new lease of life to their careers by performing brilliantly for their franchises.

IPL 2022 was different in many ways – 10 teams, two starters, a brand new champion and a title-winning captain. But the biggest difference was the return of superstars due to the emergence of new faces. Of course, a few caught the attention of youngsters but the theme of this IPL was to experience the young blood beyond. Some well-established players, whose stock had plummeted and were on the brink of extinction, have given their careers a new lease of life by performing brilliantly for their franchises. Keeping this in mind, after an extensive search by numbers, we have picked the following 11 players for the HT Sports IPL 2022 squad for the season.

Ipl 2022: List Of Players Potentially Playing Their Last Ipl Season

The most successful racket of the year, Jos Buttler started from scratch. Having missed the second half of the last IPL season, Buttler is keen to prove himself right. And boy, did it. Buttler scored 800 runs with four centuries (most in a single edition of the IPL); In fact, Buttler’s dominance was such at one point that it looked like Virat Kohli’s tally of 973 runs was in danger. And though Buttler could not surpass Kohli, he certainly set a benchmark by becoming the second best with 863 runs at an average of 57.53.

KL Rahul’s love affair with IPL continued in the 2022 season. With 616 runs in 15 matches, it was the third and fourth year in a row that Rahul scored more than 600 runs. His strike rate has been a hot topic of debate, but it cannot be denied that along with Buttler, Rahul has been the best opener in IPL 2022 after scoring two centuries. He got close competition from David Warner, who had an impressive season with 400+ runs, but Rahul Pepes Warner was in the opening slot only because of his phenomenal consistency.

One of the youthful finds of the season. When legends like Rohit Sharma and Sunil Gavaskar talk about someone and a dedicated cricketer to play for India in all three formats, not much is left to be said. With that being said, Verma has been one of the few positives in a forgettable campaign for Mumbai Indians. While his tally of 397 runs in 14 matches over his half-century is impressive for a batsman in his first IPL season, Verma is eyeing more. Maturity, situational awareness and, as critics say, a good head on his shoulders, were the hallmarks of the 19-year-old Verma. Rest assured, he is here to stay and MI will surely plan big for the little ones.

Hardik Pandya made us believe that the comeback could be special. In a successful IPL campaign, Pandya stood out in all three attributes as he led the debutant Gujarat Titans to their maiden trophy. Captain Pandya was surprised as the batsman breathed a sigh of relief, while the Indian all-rounder was an unpredictable bowler…in a good way, of course. Hardik bowled over 140 overs which promises to be a huge advantage for the Indian team. And though he missed bowling in some matches, the fact that he came back and picked up three wickets in the final over of the decider meant that Kung Fu Pandya was back strong.

Ipl 2022: Most Expensive Flops Of The Season So Far

England big hitter Liam Livingstone will be proud of his performance despite his Punjab Kings side failing to qualify for the play-offs. Livingstone, who was bought for Rs 11.5 crore, entered the tournament with a reputation for protection and the 28-year-old certainly lived up to it. With the bat, Livingston plundered 437 runs with four half-centuries and off-spin bowling, taking six wickets with a best of 3/27. And who can forget Mohammed Shami’s smoking 117m six?

Second big comeback story of the season. A year ago, Dinesh Karthik was considered finished as he was a commentator for England and later became an analyst for a popular cricket website. And here he is… again with a great IPL season in the Indian team. Karthik ended the season with 330 runs with a half century, but it was Karthik’s role as a run, tackle and saver that grabbed the headlines. Karthik was RCB’s perfect fifth and sixth as he repeatedly kept them out of trouble playing cameos and impact strokes. Karthik will remember this season for a long time.

Another IPL…another Rashid show. The MVP had a great run in his first season for a new franchise. Rashid did what he does best… he stopped the runs, fooled the batter and delivered some classic deliveries. With 19 wickets, Rashid’s economy for the season was above 6.5 and his best 4/24 was one of the best T20 performances ever seen in the IPL. Moreover, Rashid’s 40 hits, 31 not out and 19 not out with the bat was the best counter-attack seen this season.

Harshal Patel took the post despite Jasprit Bumrah being a close rival. Harshal, last year’s leading wicket-taker, knew a hundred eyes would be on him coming into the tournament. And the quick player proved he’s not a one-season prodigy. Herschel was exciting as a new ball but even more surprising in terms of casualties. Despite a personal stop loss in the middle of the season, Herschel’s graph only went up. His spell against superstar Chennai Kings was 3/35 and 4/34 against legendary Punjab Kings.

Chahal proves why it is the best wrist watch maker in India. After his release from RCB, Chahal played his first season with Rajasthan Royals and emerged as a Purple Cap winner. Chahal was left out of India’s squad for the T20 World Cup last year and has given the selectors a strong reason for his inclusion ahead of this year’s edition. The guile is back, the zip is back…and most importantly, Chahal looks menacing and takes wickets, including his only hat-trick of the season.

Imran Malik is the feel-good story of this IPL. The 21-year-old from Jammu and Kashmir has created more waves than anyone else. Every legend in the world has had their say on Imran’s performance this year, with his deadly pace setting him apart from the rest. At 157 kmph, Imran delivered the second fastest IPL, taking five wickets in four and three balls in the season. With each match, the hype surrounding Imran’s inclusion in the Indian team grew louder before the young player’s dream in India finally came true. Team India, if you’re listening. Release Imran Malik as soon as possible.

Wanindu Hasaranga fetched ₹10.75 crore in the massive IPL auction and despite the Sri Lankan spinner not making much of a splash in the season in the first few matches, he really turned a corner towards the end of the tournament. Hasranga finished with 26 wickets, including five for four.

Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 will see more cricket and entertainment as it gets bigger. The tournament will feature 10 teams including Lucknow Super Giants and Gujarat Titans. The presence of two new teams means more players entering the tournament and increasing the level of competition.

Ipl 2022: Youngsters Making Waves In This Edition

IPL 2022 will provide a platform for several new faces to share the dressing room with the stars of the game. But next season could also be the end for some veterans of the game.

MS Dhoni: CSK captain MS Dhoni may be one of the most famous Indian players. As he has brought down the curtain on his international career, there has been speculation about his retirement from the IPL, the only tournament he has played in a year. In 2020, when asked if he had any plans to resign, he responded with two words, “Absolutely not.” The reaction has already shocked CSK fans, but Dhoni’s age is another factor that could make him hang up his boots.

DJ Bravo: Next on the list is Dhoni’s teammate and world champion DJ Bravo who is playing the last IPL of his stint.
