Steve Smith received the highest honor of an Australian man after casting 171 votes to become his fourth Allan Border Medal winner. Smith finished ahead of Travis Head (144 votes) and David Warner (141 votes), with Marnus Labuschagne and Usman Khawaja finishing in the top five.
Smith, 33, also won in 2015, 2018 and 2021, joining Ricky Ponting and Michael Clarke as the sole winners. No one has won five AB Medals since its inception in 2000.

The voting period covers last January’s Ashes, the New Zealand World Cup 50, the T20 tri-series against Ireland and Pakistan, the Commonwealth Games, December’s T20I tour of India and this month’s ODI round of the CommBank series against Pakistan.

Mooney is currently second in the ICC ODI and T20I teams and captain Lanning recently praised his prominence, saying: “I don’t think the form or the position he plays in doesn’t matter because he looks talented. Go out there and possess and do it consistently,” Lanning said. “That’s the difference between him and the rest of the players in the world – he does it game by game.”
Usman Khawaja made his second Test debut, taking home his first Shane Warne Award as male Test Player of the Year.
Named in honor of the leg player who passed away last March, Khawaja took 22 votes to beat Marnus Labuschagne (20) and Steve Smith (16).
Khawaja jokingly thanked Travis Head for “Give him the game” – in reference to Head’s injury that plagued Khawaja in the Australian side during last summer’s Ashes series.

The test vote was heavy considering the all-round Allan Border Medal, but Khawaja was yet to play for Australia in limited form last year.
Kawaja is a favorite for the award after 12 months where he was able to score 1,020 runs in a season batting average of 78.46.
Matt Short has enjoyed an impressive Big Bash season with the Adelaide Strikers since rising to the top of the batting order to be crowned the BBL|12 Player of the Tournament.
The 25-year-old finished the regular season as the game’s top scorer with 458 runs at 144.47, winning the award three points ahead of Perth Scorchers goalkeeper Josh Inglis.

Smith scored 539 runs at 67.37 in 11 games, while “surprise” Warner scored 551 runs in 13 games, averaging 42.46.
Warner received the most votes with 99 in the fourth match against Sri Lanka in Colombo, 94 in the third against Zimbabwe in Townsville and 86 in the first ODI against England in Adelaide.
Smith polled all but three Australians who played Zimbabwe, New Zealand and England between August and November. and received more than 100 votes in three wins against the Kiwis at Cairns in September.
