Carrying the burden of white-ball leadership, Kohli continued to lead India in Test cricket. He presided over two of the three Tests against the Proteas on the 2021-22 tour, missing the second match due to a back injury. Once the series was concluded India lost the series 1-2.
With Rohit incapacitated, KL Rahul led India through the three-match ODI series against South Africa. India suffered a 0-3 loss from the series.

After regaining full fitness, Rohit led India to a clean sweep of Sri Lanka in T20Is (3-0) and in March (2-0) in February.
When Rohit was injured again, Rahul was named captain for the fifth T20Is against South Africa in June. Unfortunately, Rahul picked up an injury on the eve of the series which meant a lead to Rishabh. The series ended in a 2-2 draw with the final match producing no results.
Rohit and Rishabh were part of India’s Test squad for the fifth Test against England to play at Edgbaston. So, this season, the opportunity to lead the side went to all-rounder Pandya who led Gujarat Titans to win their IPL debut title. India won the series 2-0.
Days before the start of the Test, Rohit tested positive for covid-19. The team management waited until after the match hoping that their senior cricketers would recover. But it was not before. Few have suggested that Kohli should be given the reins, having led the first four Test series last year. Ultimately, Bumrah became the first fast bowler since Kapil Dev to lead India in a Test. The travelers lost the match by seven wickets.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Sunday announced the 17-member squad for the upcoming ICC Men’s Under-19 World Cup. The ICC mega tournament is scheduled to be played from January 14 to February 5, 2022 across four foreign countries. West Indies cricket is the host for the tournament. Delhi’s Yash Dhull has been named captain of the India U19 team, while SK Rasheed will act as his deputy.
“The All India Junior Selection Committee” has selected India’s squad to play the upcoming ICC Men’s Under-19 Cricket World Cup in West Indies from January 14 to February 5, 2022 in four host countries. The 14th edition of the tournament will see 16 teams competing for the trophy in 48 matches,” the BCCI said in a statement.

Currently, the 25-member India U-19 squad is having a preparatory camp at the NCA ahead of the upcoming ACC U19 Asian Cup, scheduled to take place in the UAE from December 23. Yash will lead the India U-19 team in the ACC U19 Asia Cup.
