There was a lot at stake for both teams. While CSK and MS Dhoni had a date with destiny, Gujarat Titans had their own piece of history to chase.
CSK can equal Mumbai Indians’ record of five IPL titles with a win on Monday, while GT had a unique chance to win two titles in two years of existence. It was also their captain Hardik Pandya’s sixth IPL title.

With all the rumors about his breakup with MS Dhoni, it should be the man from Gujarat who will break the hearts of Gujarat Titans and their fans. Mohit Sharma bowled the final over and was tasked with defending 13 runs. He executed four brilliant yorkers to give just three runs. The equation stood at 10 runs from 2 balls, and brought up Jadia, who hit a six off the penultimate ball and a four off the last ball to end a dramatic game of cricket. 01:11- CSK 133-3 (12): Shivam Dube ends the 12th over with a longer double maximum off Rashid Khan to reduce the equation to 38 runs from 18 balls. The game is well set up for a dramatic ending. Can Dube be the unlikely hero for CSK or will Mohit Sharma and Mohammed Shami limit the men in yellow?
00:50- CSK 94-2 (8): CSK have lost both their openers in the same over, but Ajinkya Rahane, who has had a good IPL so far, has already hit two sixes to keep the momentum going in favor of CSK. However, one or two more goals make things really interesting. CSK need 77 in 7 overs at 11 runs an over.

00:42- CSK 74-1 (6.3) CSK lose their first wicket: Rotoraj Gaikwad smashes his shot off the bowling of Noor Ahmed and it’s one of the simplest catches Rashid Khan will ever take. Shivam Dube comes in to bat and replaces Matheesha Pathirana as the impact player.
00:26- CSK 52-0 (4), end of powerplay: CSK are off to a flying start thanks to some good hitting from Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway, although they are helped by the fact that the ball is very slippery to through a wet field. The Super Kings could not have hoped for a better start and now need 119 runs in 11 overs.
23:54 – Changed rules for run chase: the first four overs will be the powerplay and a bowler can bowl a maximum of three overs. CSK were 4-0 after 0.3 runs meaning they now need 167 runs in 14.3 overs at a required run rate of 11.52.

23:47 – Play to resume at 12:10, CSK to bat for 15 overs: Looks like play can resume now. The judges are satisfied with what they see on the ground. However, there is a reduction of five overs as CSK will bat for just 15 overs and their revised target is 171. Play will resume at 12:10 PM.
23:00 – Still no sign of the game resuming: Although the champions are doing their best to ensure that the field is as dry as possible, one of the practice fields continues to disturb the ground staff and the referees who they have it out for inspection. . The next inspection is scheduled for 11:30 p.m., but things look much better than during the previous inspection.
22:18- Goals are coming down: good news out there as the goals are coming down. However, the ground crew needs some time to dry the ground. The next official update will be at 22:45, stay tuned.
10:10 PM – CSK Scores: The host broadcasters have stated on air that they will not lose the runs if the rain continues till midnight, which means we have about an hour and 50 minutes before the DLS system kicks in.

21:13- GT 214-4 (20), end of innings: GT have posted a huge total on the board, adding 71 runs in the last five overs. A cameo from Hardik Pandya and a ferocious knock from Sai Sudharsan – who was unlucky to fall just four runs short of his maiden IPL century – made the batting look like a cakewalk against Mathisha Pathirana. 20:43- GT 143-2 (15): Although GT lost Saha in the 14th over, Sudharsan kept up the run rate as he smashed Theekshana for straight sixes to reach 48 runs. GT will be hoping to add at least 60 more runs from here on out as they have another eight wickets in hand with David Miller, Rahul Tewatia and Rashid Khan.

20:05- GT 67-1 (7), Gill leaves!: Lightning quick handwork by MSD behind the stumps, Gill dismissed on 39. It was a good ball from Ravindra Jadeja and CSK have their first breakthrough. Gill is just 10 runs away from breaking the 900 run mark in IPL 2023.
20:00- GT 62-0 (6), end of the powerplay: Saha and Gill lifted the Titans into an absolute playoff, scoring 10.33 runs an over. The first two overs, bowled by Chahar and Tushar Deshpande, were quiet. In fact, Chahar took Gill off the bowling of Deshpande, and CSK conceded a host of boundaries since then. It will be interesting to see what Dhoni plans to do in the interim.
