Brand New Casino 2021 – Las Vegas is constantly reinventing the status quo and never stands still. Vegas resorts are very short-lived, often suffering and re-emerging as new, reimagined resorts.
Even iconic buildings like the Tropicana, the Flamingo, and Caesars Palace have seen their footprints grow and change dramatically over the years, almost as if they’re all vying for the title of the newest resort in Las Vegas.

Financial winds of change, such as the 2008 financial crisis, often halt new resort and casino projects, leaving the carcasses of those that had withered in the desert sun. Drew, Echelon, and Alon are all names that were exciting at one time but never materialized or died before they were done.
Us Casinos Won $53 Billion In 2021, Their Best Year Ever
Fortunately, several Las Vegas casino projects are underway or already open, offering guests new resorts to explore. Below, I go over the new casinos and hotels in Las Vegas that have recently opened or are about to open.
The following Las Vegas resort projects are in various stages of development and range from bidding to completion.
Of course, it’s never a given that a designated stop will cross the finish line. It is impossible to get too attached to an ideal idea until meaningful progress is seen.
In December 2022, Hard Rock International purchased the Mirage operation from MGM Resorts for $1.075 billion, bringing the iconic brand to the Las Vegas Strip.
Casino Marketing Strategies That Actually Work
Details on Hard Rock International’s plans for the resort remain sketchy, but it is known that they plan to build a 600-foot guitar-shaped hotel tower on the Strip, where the Mirage volcano is located.
As you can see in the rendering below, the new hotel tower in Vegas boasts easily one of the best views of the Strip.
In a recent press release, Hard Rock International revealed that their Las Vegas location will open in 2025, and many have speculated that the resort may be temporarily closed during the transition.
While there was once a Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas on the Strip (now the Virginia Las Vegas), Hard Rock International had no involvement in the property.
Saks Fifth Avenue’s Bid For Gambling
An interesting remnant of decadence, an empty, half-baked resort has been staring at Navor for a decade or more and hardly qualifies as a “new” project.
Located just north of the former Riviera location and across the street from Circus Circus, the Blue Behemoth was originally slated to open as Fontainebleau Las Vegas in 2009.
Unfortunately, funding stopped due to the financial crisis of 2008, which halted construction.
During the Great Depression, Carl Icahn stepped up and bought the dilapidated Fontainebleau project for a paltry $148 million, furnished it, and sat on the property, waiting for better times.

Fast forward to 2017 and the entertainment vertical project has been purchased by The Witkoff Group from Carl Ichan for $600 million. Witkoff named the project “The Drew” after his late son.
The resort changed hands again in 2021, when Witkoff sold the unfinished project in partnership with Fontainebleau Development to Koch Real Estate Investments. Interestingly, the project has come a long way since Fontainebleau Development was involved in the initial design. For those keeping score at home, this resort project has been dubbed the Fontainebleau Las Vegas.
The important event was held on November 9, 2021 with the participation of many distinguished guests, including Governor Sisolak.
Although new information was shared, the intention to open the building in the 4th quarter of 2023 was mentioned in subsequent press releases. They also said in a press release that the building is in mint condition and construction work has started.

Fontainebleau will have 3,644,550,000 square feet of meeting space, a rooftop pool and a 150,000 square foot casino. Little information has been shared about what the redesigned project under Koch Real Estate’s investment might look like, but showings should begin soon.
Dream Hotels has begun construction on what was once a vacant lot on the southern end of the Strip. Nearby attractions include the Pinball Hall of Fame and the famous “Welcome to Legendary Las Vegas” sign.
Dream plans to offer a casino, 20,000 square feet, 531 rooms and suites, 12,000 square feet of meeting space, a fitness center and a spa.
There are 7 dining and nightlife options, including a 24-hour restaurant, coffee shop, day club, lobby and nightclub.

The official foundation took place in July 2022 and Dream plans to welcome its first guests at the end of 2024.
Although construction had begun, work was halted in March 2023 due to financial problems with the Las Vegas Review-Journal. According to this article, a new financial deal is in the works and will hopefully be secured within weeks.
Work to transform Bally’s into the Las Vegas Horseshoe has begun and is underway in the spring of 2022, although the venue has officially changed names to reflect its new identity.
Ole Red will be a live country music venue located in the Grand Bazaar Shops along Las Vegas Blvd. The live music venue, currently under construction, is the brainchild of Blake Shelton and will feature up-and-coming acts.

The gaming floor will also be upgraded and will feature “used leather, striking colors and the iconic brand’s golden horseshoe”.
As part of the press release, the official said: “At Horseshoe, it’s all about the gambler. Since 1951, Horseshoe Casinoshave been home to the best odds, highest limits and biggest jackpots.”

As much as I want to believe this means the continued decline in gaming opportunities on the Strip will be reversed, I’m not so sure.
However, Bally needed some serious attention and I look forward to seeing what the re-imagined horseshoe will bring to the table when it is completed in 2023.
Channel Casinos has broken ground on a new casino center targeting the local market in southwest Stipe.
The new resort will feature a casino, meeting space and a 200+ room 83,000+ square foot hotel. Dining options include 4 sit-down restaurants and a food court with fast-casual options. Current projections call for Durango to open in late 2023.

The property will be similar to other high-end properties in Channel’s portfolio, such as Red Rock and Green Valley Ranch.
Oak View Group recently announced that it will purchase 25 acres of land south of the Strip at the intersection of I-15 and I-215 to build a $10 billion entertainment complex. The as-yet-unnamed project will include a casino, a hotel and a 20,000-seat NBA Ready arena.
Unlike the Raiders and A’s, Oak View Group is not seeking any public funding for the project, which would potentially attract an NBA franchise.
Groundbreaking is expected to take place in 2024 and I will be sure to share more details as they become available.
Restaurants, Casinos See Increase In Business As Restrictions Ease
Tilman Fertitta, owner of the Houston Rockets and Golden Nuggets among other holdings, has submitted plans for a 43-story, 2,400+-room casino and hotel at the corner of Harmon and Las Vegas Boulevard. The site once housed a TexMex restaurant, a Travelodge hotel and a depressing shopping center.
Although Clark County approved plans for a new resort in October 2022, the Nevada Independent recently quoted an official related to Fertitta as saying, “It’s too expensive to build in an inflationary environment,” adding that Tillman is still considering his options.
The following resorts on the Strip, Fremont Street and just off the Strip are open for business and ready to greet you.
