The Indian Premier League is entering its 16th edition and the new year brings new rules and format changes to keep the tournament exciting and engaging for the users. The IPL has always been regarded as a tournament that brings out the best in cricket in terms of technology or players.
Ipl 2023: Updated Schedule Of The Tournament
With the slightly revised format and rule changes, we will see the IPL brand gain more recognition. In terms of format, the core of 10 teams will remain the same as in 2022. However, 2023 will see an expansion of the rules and a slight change in the format.
To recall, 2022 saw the IPL switch to a 10-team format. This is different from previous years where we have seen 8 teams. The change in the number of teams resulted in the IPL moving from a 60 match tournament to a 74 match tournament. Similarly, not all teams will play the other nine teams twice as we have seen before 2022.
The main format remains the same in 2023. Hence, a total of 74 matches between the 10 teams should be seen, including four play-off matches. Meanwhile, the Chennai Super Kings are favorites to win the IPL 2023 according to the leading IPL betting site.
So, the main difference this year is how the groups are split. To recap, in 2022 the teams were grouped according to trophies won and final appearances. However, a draw was held this year to determine the teams in the various groups.

In a random draw, Mumbai Indians, Kolkata Knight Riders, Rajasthan Royals, Delhi Capitals and Lucknow Super Giants were placed in Group A. Chennai Super Kings, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Gujarat Titans, Royal Challengers Bangalore and Punjab Kings are part of the group. b.
Each team will play its own teams once and teams from the other groups twice. For example, Mumbai Indians, placed in group A, will play against KKR once, but against CSK twice. Luckily the way the program is designed is interesting and we can see MI and CSK playing twice.
As a new experiment, the BCCI has allowed teams to insert an impact player at any point in the game. This means that the fielding team will have the freedom to bring in an extra bowler when he bowls first or second. The batting team may bring in an extra batter when batting first or second.

Interestingly, teams can engage the impact player at any stage of the competition. For example, Bhuvneshwar Kumar completes his quota of four overs by bowling 1, 3, 5 and 7 overs. SRH can replace Bhuvi with another bowler who can bowl another four overs; But at the expense of other bowlers’ overs, or with a batsman, he can help the team to chase in the second innings.

Similarly, CSK’s specialist batsman Ruthuraj Gaekwad was out for a duck as he batted first. To compensate for this, MS Dhoni is allowed to carry one more batsman any time before the 14th over. The new batsman can play as usual for the rest of the games. However, Ruturaj Gaekwad could no longer compete; Even as a substitute.
The captain of either team is allowed to use an impact player in the top of the inning; When a batter retires; When a wicket falls or at the end of any over. Furthermore, an impact player can only be used among the four substitutes nominated by each team in the draw. Essentially, an impact player can only be an Indian player if there are no fewer than four foreign players in the 11 in play.
Play 11 After the toss, both teams can name their game 11. Then, each team can play two 11s with them: one to bat first and the other to bowl first, and name them according to the result of the toss . This will help eliminate the possibility of the draw controlling the outcome of the game.
