For those living under rocks, the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup is an international women’s Twenty20 international cricket championship held every two years. The tournament started on February 10 and will be held in South Africa till February 26. It takes place at three locations across the country – Newlands in Cape Town, Boland Park in Paarl and St George’s Park in Port Elizabeth.

In December 2020, the ICC announced the qualification process for the tournament. As the host nation, South Africa has automatically qualified for the World Cup along with seven other top teams in the world competing in the 2020 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in Australia. Ireland and Bangladesh, who reached the final of the qualifying tournament, occupied the last two spots.

Teams participating in ICC Women’s T20 World Cup: South Africa, Australia, England, India, New Zealand, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, West Indies, Bangladesh and Ireland. Originally scheduled for 2022, the T20 World Cup was postponed to February 2023 to avoid clashing with the FIFA World Cup. Each country’s team selected a 15-man squad for the tournament, with Pakistan being the first to announce its squad on 14 December 2022.

A total of USD 2,450,000 (INR 20.28 million) prize money has been allocated for the tournament and will be awarded to different teams based on their performance.
The winning team will receive USD 1 million (INR 8.27 million), while the losing finalist will receive USD 500,000 (INR 4.13 million). The four semi-final teams will receive USD 210,000 (INR 1.73 million). Even teams that fail to make it past the group stage won’t go home empty-handed. Each of them will receive 30,000 USD (24.83 GEL). Not only that, the winner of each pool match will win USD 17,500 (14.48 GEL).
