South Africa is set to get its own T20 Premier League after the board proposed an eight-team tournament to be held separately from other domestic crickets in the country. If approved, the competition will begin in the 2017-18 season and take place in November-December, with the final on December 16, a public holiday in South Africa. If the new tournament becomes a reality, there will be a big change. The twenty deep region of South Africa, which lags behind other countries. Cricket South Africa’s SA20 will kick off on January 10, 2023, just 100 days before the start of the new T20 franchise tournament. There are six franchises competing in the league: MI Cape Town, Durban Supergiants, Johannesburg Super Kings, Pearl Royals, Pretoria Capitals and Sunrisers Eastern Cape, which is the team that represents Gukbarha. Interestingly, all SA20 teams belong to IPL franchises.
The team filled out their roster at the September 19 player auction, where the Sunrisers franchise bought for around US$520,000, with drummer Tristan Stubbs the most expensive player. Each team consists of 17 players, with a maximum of seven international matches.
Former Chennai Super Kings member Faf du Plessis will be the head coach of the Johannesburg Super Kings. Albie Morkel, another former CSK player, will be the team’s assistant coach.

“The player auction was a huge success for us at the Johannesburg Super Kings and for the league itself,” ESPNcricinfo quoted Faf du Plessis as saying.
“Many quality local and international cricketers have been selected and competitive cricket will surely emerge from the teams…We have already started working behind the scenes and look forward to the process starting on January 10.” He added more.
He said SA20 is going to have a huge impact on South African cricket, it is going to revolutionize the game in our country and if used correctly and to its full potential it will be an exciting competition. “There is a certain level of excitement among cricketers that we have a league in our country, knowing that if they show their talent who knows where that might go, whether that’s playing for Proteas or getting a agreement around the world,” said Robin Peterson.
SA20 will consist of 33 matches, which will be played from January 10 to February. All teams will play each other twice – home and away – during the league with two semi-finals and one final.
