Chennai Super Kings (CSK) became the first team in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL) to win the tournament for the fifth time. The franchise has been one of the most popular in the unlisted market since its inception in 2017-18 – with the stock starting to trade around Rs23-28. Before the recent franchise win, the stock was trading at Rs145-150, it has gained 15% to Rs168 since the win.

“The highest sales that happened for Chennai Super Kings was over Rs 160 in the last two to three months during the IPL,” said Thejas Jagannath, Senior Lead Strategy at UnlistedKart.

“The company’s share, which is currently worth around Rs 5600 crore, has been growing at 10-15% year-on-year irrespective of the IPL results,” Jagannath said.

In short, analysts say that Chennai Super Kings is the most popular team in the league even though there are other franchises in this stadium. Mumbai Indians and Rajasthan Royals are a distant second and third.

Brand CSK has always been synonymous with brand Dhoni. During the IPL, fans filled the stadium like no other, hoping that this would be the last time they would see their captain MS Dhoni, popularly known as “Thala” (The Leader).
