The 2023 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is just around the corner as the tournament begins with the league phase scheduled to run from March 31, 2023 to May 21, 2023.

In the 16th season of the IPL, ten teams will battle it out in a home and away double header format in the league stage with the top four teams going to the playoffs – Eliminator, Qualifiers and the Final.

Unlike the previous three editions which were affected by the COVID pandemic, IPL 2023 will return to the original home and away format, with all ten teams playing their home matches at their home venues.

They will play a total of 74 matches in 12 stadiums. While the league stage ends on May 21, the qualifiers, qualifiers and finals will end by May 28.

All ten teams have finalized their squads during the IPL 2023 auction in December 2022. And most of the franchises have also unveiled their captains for the season except Sunrisers Hyderabad who have named Aiden Markram as their captain.

Meanwhile, Delhi Capitals suffered a blow when star and captain Rishabh Pant met with an injury in late December 2022, which ruled him out for good. Hence, DC appointed David Warner as the captain and Axar Patel as his deputy.

Like the captains, most of the franchises have also announced their coaching staff and backroom for the upcoming edition of the cash-rich league. Punjab Kings will have a new face leading their team as well as the team coach.

Kolkata Knight Riders also brought in a new coach after Brendon McCullum’s move to the England Test team. KKR also had to change their captain. Mahendra Singh Dhoni begins another season as Chennai Super Kings captain after taking over the role midway through last season.

Mumbai Indians have also appointed Mark Boucher as their coach, while Sunrisers have promoted Brian Lara as head coach following the resignation of former coach Tom Moody.

Aside from the head coach, all teams have well-stocked back rooms with role-specific coaches, physicals, analysts and many others who make up the support staff for all franchises. The 2023 Indian Premier League promises to be another roller coaster of a season. Just like last year, 10 teams will participate this time, but with some changes.
