Geelong cricket fans turned out for the January 3 BBL match between Melbourne Renegades and Adelaide Strikers to see their favorite stars take to the pitch – many dressed head-to-toe in red. The newly emerged pitch set the perfect pitch for an exciting match.
Unfortunately, the final score did not reflect the results the fans were hoping for, with the Renegades trailing the Strikers by 32 points.

Geelong Cats superstar Patrick Dangerfield dressed in red and black to help ‘swing the bat’ before the game. Renegades captain Tom Cooper won the toss and elected to bowl.
Earlier in the day, the Renegades Women’s team continued their winning streak in the WBBL, picking up a third straight win over the Hobart Hurricanes as they advanced to the finals.
The Renegades will return to their home away from home in Geelong on Sunday January 13 to take on the Brisbane Heat in the BBL, while the Renegades Women’s team will take on the Sydney Sixers in the WBBL.
Our COVIDSafe Commitment The health, well-being and safety of everyone visiting the stadium is our number one priority. Adapting to the unique features of Geelong’s Kardinia Park will be crucial for Sunday night’s second KFC T20 INTL against Sri Lanka, Australian Pat Cummins said.

The T20I double-header, where the Commonwealth Bank Southern Stars take on New Zealand, will be the first international match hosted by the venue, before the Australian men even see their series against Sri Lanka.
To bring the narrow pitch (typically used in Australian rules football) into line with International Council guidelines, the landing pitch was offset at an angle from north-east to south-west.
Traditionally, the pitch at Kardinia Park has followed the goal-to-goal line, but the 115m wide pitch fails to meet ICC guidelines which require a minimum distance of 137.16m between window boundaries.
The subtle difference opens up more space for square wickets, allowing the ground to meet these requirements, which stipulate that the short boundary of two square feet must be at least 59.43 metres.
Big Bash: Pitch Arrives At Gmhba Stadium For Melbourne Renegades Matches
“It’s a fairly long, straight pitch, quite similar to Bellerive Oval or Adelaide Oval in Tasmania,” Cummins said after inspecting the pitch on Saturday.
“The pitch is actually quite steep… meaning there are a few short pockets of fine leg but also some long pockets.
“We’re just trying to figure out which parts of the ground to hit the batsmen with.
The Australian team got their first glimpse of the pitch at Kardinia Park on Saturday afternoon, but their visit to Geelong was cut short when heavy rain forced them to abandon a planned net session.

The stadium has previously hosted a KFC Big Bash League practice match between Melbourne Renegades and Melbourne Stars and a tour match between West Indies and Victorian XI in late 2015.
Two members of Australia’s T20 team – captain Aaron Finch and leg-spinner Adam Zampa – played in this BBL warm-up match, so they will have an idea of how to approach the unique layout at Kardinia Park.
Finch also has a strong connection to where he grew up in the town of Colac, 75km west of Geelong, 75km south-west of Melbourne. Finch plays with Geelong, who play next door to the main stadium.
While Cummins said he was not sure what to expect from the box office, he was optimistic Friday night’s T20I opener would deliver more momentum than what was seen at the MCG.

“I don’t really know (what to expect) to be honest, I’ve watched a few AFL games on TV,” Cummins said.
