Hendrix was part of the squad for both the ODI and T20I series against England earlier this month, but hasn’t won a single match in the latter, following Temba Bafuma’s steady return to top form. He was previously overlooked in the Australian series, but is now taking a look after injuries to Bafuma and Heinrich Klassen.

While Bafuma was recovering from a hamstring strain, which he sustained during the deciding match of the three-match series against England at the Centurion, Klassen suffered a right groin injury during the team’s warm-up ahead of the opening T20I series in Johannesburg. The second leg will be played in Port Elizabeth on Sunday.

“Bafuma and Klassen will continue to receive treatment and will undergo re-evaluation prior to the start of the second game,” the CSA said in a statement.
Hendrix’s final T20I appearance came in the third T20I against India at Bengaluru in September 2019. He played with the bat in his team’s 3-0 sweep against Sri Lanka in February last year, amassing 139 runs from three matches.
