Sami even broke Akhtar’s record by bowling the fastest bowler in international cricket. In one of the ODIs against India, Sammy covered 1,000 miles and clocked a speed of 100.8 mph or 162.3 kmph. However, the ICC did not recognize it and Akhtar still holds the record for the fastest bowler at the highest level. Former India captain Sourav Ganguly’s ‘fast ball’ by Sammy, which took a boundary, did not give him good results.
A climed bowling machine was not registered.
Akhtar holds the record for the fastest ball bowled against England in 2003 when he ran 161.3 km. Officially, the record still stands and Akhtar tops the list of fastest bowlers.
Jofra Archer, who bowled 90 mph on his Test debut last year, is the only competitor in the modern era to break or come close to Akhtar’s record.

Pakistan has produced some legendary fast bowlers who have dominated the game over the last few decades. The legendary duo of Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis tormented the batting line-up in the 90s, while Shoaib Akhtar’s blistering pace devastated the opposition in the 2000s. Also, many music composers like Muhammad Sami, Muhammad Asif, Muhammad Amir have given notable performances for Pakistan.

Akhtar holds the record for the fastest delivery in international cricket (161 kmph against New Zealand in 2002). However, Sami claimed to have crossed 160 kmph twice during a match and was faster than Akhtar.

The former Pakistan bowler said that bowlers who have crossed the speed of 160 kmph have only been able to do so on special occasions.
Even if you look at the history of bowling as a whole, bowlers who have topped 160 km/h have only achieved this feat once or twice. It’s not like they do it regularly.
Sami’s fastest ball of his international career was 156.4 kmph in an ODI against Zimbabwe in Sharjah in 2003.
Sami made his Test debut for Pakistan against New Zealand in March 2001, but had mixed performances for the team during his 15-year international career. The former Pakistan fast bowler played his last match for the team in March 2016 against Australia.
