The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Sport and Recreation, the Hon Grant Robertson joined ICC Cricket World Cup 2022 Organizing Committee representatives at Cricket Wellington at Wellington’s Basin Reserve to announce improvements to five sports and training venues for the event.
As well as Basin Reserve, other venues are Seddon Park, Hagley Oval, University Oval and the NZC High Performance Center at Lincoln University.

The investment covers infrastructure and stadium and training ground improvements for the 2021 Rugby World Cup, as well as major improvements for the Cricket World Cup and the 2023 FIFA World Cup.

After being postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic last year, the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2022 will finally begin on March 4, 2022, with hosts New Zealand taking on the West Indies in the opening match at the Bay Oval in Tauranga. The tournament will be played in a single stage format and the eight qualified teams will participate in each group once in the group stage. The top four teams in the points standings after the end of the competition will qualify for the semi-finals. With the first and second semi-finals set for March 30 and 31 respectively, the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2022 title final will take place on April 3 at the Hagley Oval in Christchurch. The Mithali Raj-led Indian team will begin their tour campaign against fans of Pakistan on March 6.
