The Indian Premier League is in its 16th edition, and the tournament has seen a roll-a-coaster ride from the team’s point of view. It started with 8 teams in 2008 before going to a 10-team tournament, then back to 8 teams, and then back to 10 teams in 2022. But one thing that has gotten better over time is the quality of the player over the years.

With 10 teams participating this year, there is a good chance that all teams will have teams of equal strength. If you consider the distribution of quality players in the different teams, all the teams seem to have a very similar Game 11 when it comes to their composition in different categories.

However, how about we analyze their squads, and find out their possible playing XI for all 10 teams for IPL 2023? As usual, teams are ranked on the cumulative rating of their 11 best players. Players are rated relatively for last three IPL and Domestic/International performances. While relative ratings are calculated based on benchmark players in their respective categories such as openers, pacers, spinners, etc.

At number 10 we have Mumbai Indians with a rating of 8 for their best 11. Even before the tournament started, MI came through two shocks. They lost the best pacer of the tournament, Jasprit Bumrah and their star overseas pacer, Jhye Richardson. With the loss of both, Mumbai Indians’ rating drops to just 8th.

Still, MI has a good batting line-up with captain Rohit Sharma, Ishan Kishan, Cameron Green, Suryakumar Yadav and Tim David. However, it was the lower order and bowling that worried MI. They have Archer, but how far will he react on his own? In addition to Archer, Jason Behrendorff has to take a good responsibility.

The IPL 2022 runners-up find themselves at number 8, but that doesn’t mean they have a bad game 11. Compared to IPL 2022, they have a better game 11, but the loss of Prasidh Krishna affected their rating a bit. Also, just like KKR, they rely on youngsters to deliver.

They have as many as four in their best player 11 with the likes of Yashasvi Jaiswal, Devdutt Padikkal, Riyan Parag and Kuldeep Sen. But to balance these four, they have big names like Jos Buttler, Sanju Samson, Shimron Hetmyer, Yuzvendra Chahal, and Trent Boult. Even though they are number 8, that doesn’t mean they can’t go all the way.

You might be surprised to see Delhi Capitals at number 7, but that’s only because Delhi lost their captain and India’s best wicketkeeper, Rishabh Pant. Without Pant, their rating dropped from 8,553 to 8,326 and the position from number 5 to number 7. Without Pant, Delhi has some gaps; especially in their middle order.

The team needs players like Sarfaraz Khan, Lalit Yadav, Rovman Powell, and even Manish Pandey when he plays to play well. Their top order and bowling are quite strong, and they are the players who need to score a lot of runs and take a lot of wickets.

However, they are still quite strong in some departments. With Shikhar Dhawan at the helm, expect a quiet atmosphere in their dressing room.

Top Teams In Ipl 2023

At number 5 we have Lucknow Super Giants who look pretty strong on paper with their game 11. They look pretty balanced from all departments. However, it is their inexperienced bowling that has reduced their rating somewhat. The likes of Mohsin Khan, Ravi Bishnoi, and Avesh Khan are quite strong, but they have yet to compete with India. Otherwise, LSG led KL Rahul fielded a strong 11 to compete in the tournament.

At number 4 we have Sunrisers Hyderabad who seem to be getting a new squad for IPL 2023. They have a strong batting line-up with players like Harry Brook or Glenn Phillips at 6. Then they have two good all-rounders in the form of Marco Jansen and Washington Sundar.

The bowling line-up for SRH looks good with the likes of Bhuvneshwar Kumar, T. Natarajan and Umran Malik. Overall, Game 11 looks pretty strong with almost no gaps. Even if It looks bright from the start, the lack of IPL experience may catch up to them. Otherwise, they have the ability to qualify for the playoffs if they bring their A game.

At number 3 we have the IPL 2022 champions, Gujarat Titans. Gujarat is a prime example of how to make the 11. They had one of the worst 11s on paper in 2022 but still won the tournament.

Overall, they seem to have improved their playing XI this time with the addition of Kane Williamson, Odean Smith and Shivam Mavi. Williamson provides good balance at No.3, and Smith can bat well as a finisher. With Hardik at the helm and everyone performing to their potential, hopefully we will see a similar performance in 2023.

Chennai Super Kings had the second best 11 games in IPL 2023 with a rating of 8,697. CSK have an excellent team close together that gives them seven bowling options, and a batting depth of up to 9. The only thing that can worry them is the lack of lethal bowling options on non-Chennai grounds. But ignore that, they are well-arranged to bring their A-game to the Chennai pitch.

Strong top order, brilliant finishing, and a world class pace attack. The only minor issue they have is mid-range. But if Mahipal Lomror or Suyash Prabhudessai can score well, their problem is 100% solved.
