The ground is a high-profile venue for men in the UK but has rarely hosted women’s matches. After occasional Tests and ODIs on the field during the 1960s and 1970s, no women’s internationals were played until the 2014 T20 between England and South Africa at Edgbaston, and not since. The Australian women’s team has not played on this ground since 1976.

The eight teams are divided into two groups of four, with the top two teams in each group qualifying for the semi-finals.

The teams that come first in their group will play the team that comes second in the opposing group, with the winner of the semi-final advancing to the gold medal match.

The matches will be played under normal ICC T20I playing conditions, with a decision review system available. In the event of a tie, there will be two overtimes for each group stage for each team. The number of extra overs in medal matches will be based on the match referee’s call.

Ben Sawyer, as he looks to end a six-year absence from the business end of major tournaments.

The kit is essentially ‘Australia Gold’ (not canary yellow!) and, for those fans who remember the glory days of the men’s ODIs, it has a yellow helmet! It’s a look that hasn’t been seen on Australian women since the turn of the century, and was briefly seen on men before the pandemic ended in March 2020.
