Cricket At Commonwealth Games – Cricket is the first sport to confirm its full program for the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games, the International Cricket Council (ICC) announced on Tuesday, along with the Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF).
Sri Lanka completed the eight-team list that also includes Australia, Barbados, England, India, New Zealand, Pakistan and South Africa following their victory in the 2022 Commonwealth Women’s T20 Qualifiers in Kuala Lumpur last week.

The matches are one less league clash, with Australia and India, finalists of the 2020 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, clashing in the opening match on July 29. The medal matches will be played on August 7 .

The tournament will be played in the league stage with two groups. Group A includes Australia and India along with Barbados and Pakistan. In Group B, the teams of England, New Zealand, South Africa and Sri Lanka will battle for supremacy.
This will be only the second time that cricket has been part of the Commonwealth Games. The last time the men’s teams did that was in Kuala Lumpur in 1998, and South Africa’s Sean Pollack won the gold medal by defeating Australia’s Steve Waugh by four wickets in the final.

“It’s good to have confirmed the identity of the Commonwealth Games teams, and congratulations to Sri Lanka for doing it after playing so well in the qualifiers,” said ICC chief executive Geoff Allardyce. Five Team Commonwealth Games Qualifier Set To Commence

Australia’s matches against India and Pakistan will start at 11 am local time, while their match against Barbados will start at 6 pm.

The bronze medal play-offs start at 10am on Sunday, August 7 (7pm AEST) while the gold medal competition starts the same day (2am AEST, Monday, August 8) at 5pm local.
