Just days after the BCCI announced the official schedule for the first Women’s Premier League event, the BCCI on Friday announced the official schedule for IPL 2023, the 16th edition of the Indian Premier League. As of now, BCCI has released only the schedule of group stage matches. The IPL 2023 group stage matches start on 31 March 2023 and end on 21 May 2023. As we have seen in previous years, we should expect Qualifier 1 on May 23rd and Eliminator on May 24th. The Grand Final on Sunday 26th and 28th May.
The entire tournament was planned in such a way that 70 matches of the group stage would be completed in 52 days. The playoffs will last a total of 7 days, including rest days. According to the group divisions, the respective teams from each group play each other twice; making a total of 8 games per group per team. Also, MI and CSK, KKR and SRH, RR and RCB, DC and PBKS & LSG and GT will play each other twice. The rest will be members of Group A once against the remaining four teams from Group B and vice versa.
IPL 2023 will see the return of home and away matches, unlike the last three years which had a different format. In the Home and Away format, each team will play 7 home and 7 away matches at their designated locations. So Chennai will play 7 matches at Chepauk home ground in Chennai.
In terms of venues, there are 12 venues fixed for IPL 2023. Therefore, Guwahati and Dharamshala have been added as two additional sites, along with 10 home sites for the respective teams. Jaipur and Mohali have 5 matches to play. The remaining two matches will be played in Guwahati and Dharamshala respectively.
