Oman Cricket Ground Upgrade Sept 21

The Oman Cricket Academy was inaugurated on 5 November 2018 by His Majesty Sultan Qaboos • 8 November 2018 • Peter Della PennaMuscat: Oman’s excellent cricket facilities have received the highest approval from the International Cricket Council (ICC) and the country is now an accredited Test. Venue of One Day International (ODI) and T20 International. Afghanistan have decided to play their home Test, ODI and T20I series at the Oman Cricket Academy (OCA) Ground 1, the latest addition to the elite club of Test cricket grounds.

Afghanistan will play a three-match ODI series against Ireland this month, with the first match scheduled on January 26, followed by two more matches on January 29 and 31 in Amerat.

This will be followed by a Test in Afghanistan and a T20I series against Zimbabwe, now in Oman in February, which will feature two Tests and three Twenty20 Internationals.

“This is big news and a wonderful achievement for Oman cricket. The new year has started so auspiciously for the Sultanate. Apart from the UAE, Oman is the only associate country to have Test, ODI and T20I status. a very proud moment for all of us,” said an elated Madhu Jesrani , Oman Cricket Secretary.

“Oman Cricket is delighted to learn that the Sultanate has become an accredited venue for Test matches, ODIs and T20 Internationals. Credit goes to our Chairman Kanak Khimji and the Board of Directors for helping us all these years. This honor and success is a dream come true for our chairman. Hosting Test matches and all forms of international cricket in Oman is a dream come true. That was his vision and we should all thank him for guiding us on this journey,” said Oman Cricket Development Manager and National Team Coach Duleep Mendis.

ICC accreditation was not easy. The process was quite tough and Oman Cricket had to work hard to meet all the requirements.

“When it comes to organizing Test matches and international white-ball cricket, they (ICC) go into certain details. Fortunately, we accomplished almost everything. Oman Cricket Academy is such a fantastic center that has it all. All necessary equipment is in one place. Most of the ICC officials were here and saw this facility and were very happy to give this accreditation to the Oman Cricket Ground. I have to acknowledge that Pankaj Khimji was instrumental in bringing our facility in Amerat to the ICC’s attention and we thank him for being so effective and helpful,” explained Mendis.

Oman also plans to increase the number of seats ahead of the first Test match here.

“It’s going to be a long tour and we need to plan and prepare well so that we can properly assess the equipment we have. We are determined to make this event a success. This kind of international exposure will definitely benefit Oman,” said Mendis.

Afghanistan’s series against Ireland and Zimbabwe was originally scheduled to be held in the United Arab Emirates and India, but will now be held in Oman. Amerat is one of the latest of Oman’s many residential projects, reflecting Muscat’s ambitious plans to expand beyond its conventional borders. It is also the training base of the Oman cricket team.

The Omani national cricket team now plays at some of the best grounds in the Sultanate. As the country hopes to qualify for the ICC Cricket World Cup in the future, the country’s cricket facilities have been significantly upgraded, which is sure to meet the approval of the players. The pitches were commissioned by Oman Cricket Board Director Pankaj Khimji.

“Our facility in Amerat is excellent and as good as anything I have seen in the world,” Pankaj told the Times of Oman. “We recently had county teams from Lancashire and Nottinghamshire here for pre-season training and were blown away by what they saw. Once we have the indoor facilities and other facilities ready, there’s no reason we can’t play more teams here.” .

Charming Amerat Facility Impresses ‘dada’

“The whole journey started about five years ago and I promise you it was not easy,” he added

“We live in one of the hottest areas in the world, where there is a shortage of water and it is not easy to maintain such a height throughout the season. We play cricket about 100 days a year. We have about five full-time employees and three to five part-time employees, as well as an outside agency that cuts the grass. Every year we need more than 10 people to take care of these fields. “We installed our reverse osmosis plant because the required water quality is very high and we are waiting for Haya Water to come and connect to our water supply. “We needed about 10,000 gallons of water per lot.” We must be careful not to waste it so that the rest of the neighborhood can use it.

The next step, says Pankaj, is to introduce the game to schools. Including schools attended not only by compatriots, but also by Omanis.

“We are on the right track and we seem to be progressing well. Now it is about developing at the local level so that local kids can come and play cricket in Oman,” he added. “The question we have to ask now is: ‘How do we achieve this?’ I think if we want to be in the top 15 in the world, we have to give our players contracts.

We need to start inculcating sports in schools.”
