“Last year, we allowed each cricket organization to field two Under-19 teams in the national competition and this year we have increased the number of matches in the 2nd XI CA Cup, Championship and Challenge. This means that each player gets less than 10 games in all the three formats, which is less for any player. Gives him ample opportunity to showcase his skills and talent and get his own chances in the starting XI.

“We have introduced a new idea that non-first-class matches of the CA Championship will be four days. This makes the games more competitive and result oriented and the players get full opportunity to get the best out of these games. It helps bridge the gap with our first-class Quaid-e-Azam Trophy, in which only the best participate.

“We have tried to improve the development and growth of players. Now, a talented U19 cricketer does not have to wait till next year before playing in the senior competition. I am sure that this year, we will see some famous U19 cricketers in the CCA, CA and national competitions as the road events lead up to the big tournament.

“Last year, Haseebullah youth players from North and Balochistan, Mubasir Khan, were adjudged the winners of the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy and Pakistan Cup respectively. It is great for the PCB that the youngsters prevailed in this competition, as it showed not only the talent in our country but also the skill of our events.
