Broad then dismissed skipper Virat Kohli (17) and wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik (0) on consecutive balls to take the Indians to 66 for six in their second innings at tea.
Kohli, who was not involved when India took the field earlier in the game because of a stiff back, was visibly uncomfortable. He was caught behind as the ball skidded off his glove and Karthik was taken LBW on the next ball.
Both appeals were dismissed by on-field umpire Aleem Dar but upheld by a third umpire after England called for a televised review.
Ravichandran Ashwin (33 not out) and Hardik Pandya (26) put on 55 runs for the seventh wicket, the highest for India in two innings of this Test.
