Sri Lanka National Cricket Team Players – Sri Lanka Cricket today launched ‘2 KM Run Fitness Test’ for national players to ascertain their fitness level.
Accordingly, 32 players from a provisional squad of 36 trained for the tour of the West Indies, under reservation, took part in the Test held at the Sugathadasa Stadium.

The new test, a standardized method of determining the ‘fitness and endurance’ levels of athletes, replaces the yo-yo method used by Sri Lanka Cricket. According to the new test, the players were given a target of running a distance of 2 kilometers in a time frame of 8 minutes and 35 seconds.

It is reliably learned that four players namely Danushka Gunathilaka, Vanuka Rajapaksa, Kusal Janeth Perera and Dilruan Perera failed the fitness test as they could not run the 2 km distance within the time limit of 8 minutes 35 seconds.
“We will adjust the scores as we improve and become world class. Bowlers, batsmen and wicketkeepers will be given different time targets,” said Sri Lanka Cricket’s physical performance manager Grant Ludden.
“If a player fails, he can undergo another test within 40 days and we aim to reach the minimum fitness standards before the T20 World Cup to be played later this year”.
