The announcement of the 2023 FIFA World Cup schedule by the ICC has finally put an end to the excitement surrounding the much-awaited India vs Pakistan match. After Pakistan’s request to move two of its matches back from its original venue was rejected, the Pakistan Cricket Board returned to challenge the team’s participation in the World Cup. As of now, the PCB remains tight-lipped and will only give a confirmation after a thorough inspection of the venues, according to reports.

Amid the board’s tough stance, former Pakistan cricketer Basit Ali has appealed to the PCB to slow down and not play less restrictive. The former batsman took to his YouTube channel to point out some of the benefits that Pakistan will reap if they don’t interfere and go ahead with the original schedule. Basit also stressed that it is quite certain that the Pakistan government will give the green light for the national team to continue as it is a 50-year-old Cricket World Cup that takes place once in four years.

“I heard from news channels and YouTube that Pakistan might not be ready to play their matches in Ahmedabad and some other places. Why not? The ICC World Cup schedule is a big advantage for Pakistan. The pressure is on for the game in Ahmedabad. India, not Pakistan. If India will play in Pakistan in the Asia Cup, so the pressure is on Pakistan,” he said.
“I don’t know why people don’t understand that simple thing. And Afghanistan are a weak team – yes, they have good spinners – but wherever the schedule ends, just play. That’s rubbish. I keep hearing that Pakistan might not get permission to do it. Of course they can. Boss, this isn’t a local tournament. It’s a bloody World Cup.”
