The Indian Premier League as a tournament has played a total of 83 hundreds in its 16 years; there are around 5 hundred every year. Of these 16 years, 2022 has been the most prolific with 8 centuries this year. While 2009 was the least productive year, only 2 centuries this year.

Well, that’s exactly what we’ll be looking at as we find out the fastest century in every IPL season from 2008 to 2023.
Please note that we will only look at the fastest century in that year, so there may be several centuries with fewer balls this year that can be conceded. Okay, let’s get started.
Fastest century in every IPL season from 2008 to 2023 2008 – Adam Gilchrist vs MI – 42 goals
In 2008, a total of 6 centuries fell this year, with Adam Gilchrist the fastest. Gilchrist scored a stunning century against Mi from just 42 balls. It was an epic chase for Deccan Chargers, scoring 155 in just 12 overs. Gilchrist’s 109 consisted of 9 fours and 10 sixes, ending up with a strike ratio of 231.9.

In 2009, only two centuries were celebrated – one by Manish Pandey and the other by A. B. de Villiers. Of these two, AB de Villiers scored the fastest century with just 51 against CSK. de Villiers, while playing for Delhi Daredevils, hit 105 balls for a total of 54 balls, 5 fours and 6 sixes for a strike ratio of 194.4. Thanks to De Villiers’ knockout, DD won the match by 9 points.
In 2010 this year a total of 4 centuries were hit and the fastest was the monster strike from Yusuf Patan. Pathan almost made a mammoth run of 212 against MI, but a poor dismissal ended the matter, Patan scoring a magnificent 100 off 37 balls with 9 fours and 8 sixes for a final strike ratio of 270.3.
In 2011, a total of 6 centuries were reached this year, with Chris Gale hitting 2 of them. Gayle also hit the fastest century bowling just 46 against the Kings XI Punjab bowling team. Gayle hit a staggering 107 off just 49 balls with 10 fours and 9 sixes for a strike ratio of 218.4. This was Gale’s second century in the IPL.
There were a total of 6 centuries in 2012 and Murali Vijay was the fastest. 2012 was the year when Murali Vijay was in top form and the special century came in Qualifier 2 against Delhi Daredevil in just 51 balls. Vijay ended up scoring 113 off just 58 balls and CSK ended up with 222. DD could only score 136 as CSK won the match by 86 runs.

The year is 2013 and not only the fastest century that year but the fastest of all time came with the bat of Chris Gale. Gayle batted first against a decent PWI bowling line-up and hit a generous 175 off 66 balls. Gayle hit 13 fours and 17 sixes in his knock for a strike ratio of 265.2. RCB finished with 263 runs, winning the match by 130 runs.
There were only three centuries in 2014, with Vriddhiman Saha’s innings losing innings being the fastest. Saha scored a staggering 115 off just 55 balls, while his century came off just 49 balls. The fact that it was the final makes it even more special. Saha hit 10 fours and eight sixes and even though KXIP lost the match, it was a truly special performance.
In 2015, a total of 4 centuries were struck and the fastest of them was the monster Chris Gale. Gale scored his century off just 46 balls and eventually finished with 117 off 57 balls, 7 fours and 12 sixes, and a strike ratio of 205.3. RCB finished with a score of 226, winning the match by 138 runs.
In 2016, 7 centuries were recorded in this season, 4 of which were scored by Virat Kohli. However, the fastest of them was E.B. de Villiers scored the century against Gujarat Lions. On a flat pitch, de Villiers scored a staggering century from 43 balls and the final score was 129 from 52 balls. de Villiers hit 10 fours and 12 sixes for a strike rate of 248.1. RCB scored 248 runs and won the match by an amazing 144 runs.

There were a total of 5 centuries this year in 2017 and the fastest was Mr. Consistent, David Warner. Warney hit a staggering 100 from just 43 balls and the final score was 126 off 59 innings. Warner hit 10 fours and eight sixes as Sunrisers finished with 209 off 20 overs. It was Warner’s fastest century off 43 balls.
In 2018, a total of 5 centuries were hit this year, with Shane Watson’s 2018 IPL final being the fastest. Undoubtedly the best press shot in IPL history. Watson scored the century off just 51 balls to help CSK surpass 179 balls in just the 19th over. Watson hit 11 fours and 8 sixes with a bloody leg.
In pre-pandemic 2019, Johnny Barstow achieved the highest results. Bairstow hit the century off just 52 balls. Surprisingly, this is the slowest century among the fastest centuries every year. Barstow hit 114 off 56 balls, 12 fours and 7 sixes, and had a strike rate of 203.6.
In 2020, the year of the pandemic, there were a total of 5 centuries, the fastest of which was in Mayank Agarwal. Agarwal as a rookie has been quite productive for Punjab Kings in 2020 and this particular hit turned out to be a losing streak. Mayank scored a staggering century from just 45 balls and the final score was 106 off 50 balls. Mayank was hit 10 fours and 7 sixes.

In 2021, there were a total of 4 centuries this year. But left-hander Devdutt Padikkal is the fastest. Padikkal was a prolific rookie with RCB before moving to RR. He scored a century off just 51 balls as RCB chased down a target of 178 with 10 wickets in hand. Padikkal hit 11 fours and 6 sixes in the strike for a strike ratio of 193.3.
2022 had the highest number of centuries of any year, with a total of 8 hits this year. Of the eight, Rajat Patidar was fastest in the eliminator against Lucknow Super Giants. Rajat scored a staggering century off 49 balls and the final score was 112 off just 54 balls with 12 fours and 7 sixes. RCB scored 207/4, winning the match by 14 runs.
The last of them, Cameron Green, scored his first and also the fastest score in the IPL century in 2023 with just 47 goals. MI needed a win to stay in the playoffs and Cameron Green’s century did just that, hitting 3 goals. Green hit a brilliant 100 off 47 balls with 8 fours and 8 sixes to his credit for a strike rate of 212.8.
