Ravi Shastri’s tenure as India’s coach will come after the upcoming T20 World Cup to be held in the UAE. Since Rahul Dravid is the coach of the Indian team on the tour of Sri Lanka, discussions are going on whether he can take over as India coach after Shastri’s tenure ends.

The Indian cricket team has reached new heights under the leadership of Ravi Shastri. They have defeated Australia in their own backyard twice and reached the final of the inaugural World Test Championship. However, the Shastri and Kohli duo are yet to get the ICC trophy.

Meanwhile, former Indian cricketer Retinder Singh Sodhi said that if the Blues win the upcoming T20 World Cup in the UAE, Shastri will continue as the team’s coach.

T20 World Cup: One Year Of Rahul Dravid As India Coach

“That’s definitely my guess. It would be wrong to say that Ravi Shastri’s performance wasn’t good. He did a good job, but if the parameter is winning trophies, we haven’t. If the Indian team wins the T20 World Cup, we haven’t. If the Indian team wins the T20 World Cup, then we don’t,” Sodhi said during a discussion on India News. It would be impossible to leave Ravi Shastri.”

“He’s done well before and by winning the title, which is something we’ve been waiting for, I think the goal will be achieved. But at the end of the day, the way Rahul Bhai went to Sri Lanka as a coach and the board refused to propose two more bets, you get a rather different signal. If You ask me, there is pressure on Ravi Bhai.

Shastri is currently touring England with the Indian team for the upcoming 5-match Test series against the hosts, which starts on August 4 at Southampton. The team is supposed to meet in Durham on July 12 after a three-week break following last month’s World Tennis Championships final in Southampton.

It is a belief in cricket that the coach has a limited role to play compared to football. However, when it comes to salary, the compensation received by the Indian coaches is not original.

First, the background. Indian coaches’ salary has always been a curious thing, and more so after recent developments involving Ravi Shastri and Rahul Dravid, the tea and under-19 coaches of India, respectively. Shastri returned as coach last July in controversial circumstances, after the departure of Anil Coppel, who said his relationship with Virat Kohli had become unstable. Dravid was in the news when he refused to accept a 50,000 rupee bonus after winning the Under-19 Tea World Cup. He felt that all members of the team – players and support staff – should get the name. The Cricket Board of India accepted his proposal and paid each captain of the team Rs 25,000.

Now to the payroll. According to the BCCI website, Shastri was paid just over Rs 1.5 Crore (Rs 1, 57, 74, 456) as a professional fee for the period from 18th January to 17th April this year. With bonuses and benefits, this works out to around Rs 8 Crore per annum.

Dravid was paid Rs 2.43 crore in July-December 2017, taking his annual package to around Rs 5 crore.

Amidst the whirlwind of compensation talk, ETPanache sought a perspective on the evolution of the Indian coach’s salary. One result has been that many Indian coaches have rebuilt with ease – even before the onslaught of the IPL.

Indian cricket in the 1990s might have been better compared to the present time, but for that tie it was great. The 1983 World Cup victory, the crushing WorldTel deal with Sachin Tendulkar and the Indian cricket board in the 1990s had a huge impact on the sport. This was reflected in the coach’s salary.

According to a reliable source, 1983 World Cup star Aadan Lal, who coached India in 1996-77, earned Rs 5 million per second. Kapil Dev, during his disastrous tenure as Indian coach from late 1999 to 2000, is said to have earned Rs 4 lakh per round and received a 35 per cent bonus at the end of the year. Dev and Lal refused when asked about their salaries.

Every former Indian player and his contemporaries do not like it when a foreigner is appointed as coach of what is supposed to be a high. But Indian coaches get paid equally well. Shastri, for example, earns nearly three times as much as Gary Kirsten, who captained India to victory in the 2011 World Cup and earned ₹2.5 crore annually. John Wright, who created Indian Cricket with Sourav Ganguly, in the period 2000-2005, earned Rs 1 crore annually for his services. Disqualified Greg Chappelle earned Rs 1.25 crore per year when he was the coach from 2005 to 2007.

As BCCI is seeking new applications for the post of head coach for the Indian cricket team, let’s have a look at the previous coaches for Team India.

Indian cricket fans are devastated after India’s shocking exit from the 2019 FIFA World Cup with an 18-run defeat by New Zealand in their first semi-final at Old Trafford in Manchester. Fans were outraged that India, one of the “favorites” for the title, could not even reach the final of the quadrennial tournament. The blame game started when many fingers pointed at the team’s current coach Ravi Shastri, while others blamed captain Virat Kohli and the team management for failing to put on a showing in the knockout stage of the event.

Now, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has invited new applications for the head coach post as Shastri’s contract expires after India’s tour of the West Indies. Despite this, Shastri could continue to be the head coach of the team as his tenure was extended by the board of directors.
