The Duleep Trophy will mark the start of India’s 2022-23 domestic cricket season on September 8, the Board of Control for Cricket in India announced on Monday. More than 1,500 matches will be played in this season, which will start in the first week of September 2022 and continue until the middle of March 2023. The Ranji Trophy will start on December 13, and another big gift was the return of the Iran Trophy.

The Duleep Trophy (September 8-September 25) will be a knock-out competition between six zones (North, South, Central, West, East and North-East). These two multi-day tournaments will be followed by Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and Vijay Hazare Trophy. The two white-ball tournaments will include 38 teams divided into three groups of 8 teams and two groups of 7 teams.

The Ranji Trophy, India’s first domestic tournament, will have two stages; 1) Elite and 2) Plate. The Elite Group will have 32 teams and each team will be divided into 4 groups of 8 teams on a home and away basis and each team will play 7 games in the league stage. The top two teams from each of the four groups will go directly to the quarterfinals.

The Plate group will have 6 teams with 15 league games and the top four teams will enter the semi-finals, while the bottom two will face each other in the 5th/6th place. Both the Elite Group and Plate Group league matches will start on December 13, with the Plate League ending on January 29 and the Elite Group on February 20.

As the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup will be held in South Africa in February 2023, the women’s calendar begins with the Senior Women’s T20 Cup, which starts on October 11 and ends on November 5. The Senior Women’s Interzonal T20 and T20 Challenger will follow. The 50-over format will then receive the Senior Women’s one-day trophy and the inter-zonal one-day prize.

Both the Senior Women’s Interzonal T20 and the one-day series have been reintroduced this season. For the first time, the Board will conduct a one-day tournament for girls at the U-16 level. The competition will help girls discover competitive cricket at a young age and help them make a smooth transition to the U-19 level.

The Women’s U19 T20 Trophy and the U19 Women’s T20 Challenger are scheduled from October 1 to November 7, as South Africa will also host the inaugural ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup in January.

New Delhi: The BCCI has released a new schedule for domestic cricket in India for the 2021-22 Ranji Trophy season which is scheduled to be played from January 5 to March 20.

The Ranji Trophy was not held last season due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the logistical constraints it faced to have bio-foam extended to the 38 teams.

The green ribbon tournament is back on BCCI’s domestic calendar, but senior men’s cricket will begin from October 27 with the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy to be held after the IPL to ensure availability of top quality cricketers.

The Vijay Hazare Trophy (National One Dayers) will be played from December 1 to 29, while the senior women will play their first tournament – the National One Day – from October 20 to November 20.

The season starts with the women’s and men’s U-19 (Vinoo Mankad) one-day events from September 20 and will continue with the women’s and men’s U-19 cup on October 25 and 26 respectively.

The U-25 (State A) one-day events will run from November 9 to December 10, while the CK Nayudu Trophy (also U-25 from the previous U-23) will start from January 6.

In the senior men’s competitions (Ranji Trophy, Vijay Hazare Trophy and Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy), 38 teams will be divided into six groups. There will be five Elite Groups of six teams each and a Plate group of eight teams.

At the U-25 level, there will be five Elite Teams of six teams each and one Plate team of seven teams.
